So I was picking up treats and new basketbally hoop and a playstand was on sale and and I haven't finished the one I was building so....

Yeah, as compared to sitting on my shoulder his comments seem to be "get me off this P.O.S."

He will sit on it, but he doesn't play, bear in mind I came here with the first post: http://www.parrotforums.com/questions-answers/69829-my-bird-too-attached-me.html so I didn't expect him to be overjoyed. I just keep introducing him to it back and forth, adding food bowls and water bowls, adding and removing toys to see if anything changes but....no joy so far...he's basically "screw this I wanna ya shouldaw" he even faked a hysteric and jumped off once after he had been sitting on it for over a minute with nothing happening except a attention dance.

He's not afraid of it...he just won't let go of me I think. I was going to finish my project eventually or get one of those bigger stands with the house and all that but seems like it might be a waste of money....

Any advice? Thanks

Yoda, Green Cheek Conure - Trigger, Congo African Grey
This is too funny, Yoda reacted the same way to the big fancy playgym we bought him also. The only time he tolerates NOT being on one of us is if he needs to poop, or if it's mealtime and I and/or my husband is within a couple of feet and also eating.

BTW, I loved your original post about over-bonding. I had the EXACT same concerns about Yoda, but I was actually afraid to ask about over-bonding because I love it. I didn't want to hear if the answer was "Yes, you should leave him in his cage more often", Yoda may be overbonded to me, but I think I'm overbonded to him also. :)

THANK YOU!!!!!! yeah from the time I get home till bed and after I wake up he's always on me. Put him on the floor and it's like I have an invisible leash, he literally walks with me like we are participating in a dog show. If I happen to put him on the floor and go to the bathroom he pecks and scratches at the door...so I have to open it. But I enjoy him on me helping me with everything, including chores, and he likes helping out by keeping wild birds from attacking me by yelling at them in the yard; or overheating my neck...A very good helper...

Basically whenever I need to get up I'm putting him here now just to see if he will acclimate and start playing on it.

Bumble - Pacific (or Celestial) Parrotlet hatched 02/19/17
Bumble took a long time to become interested in her boing. She wanted to be on me anytime she was out. Just in the last few weeks she’s been a tiny bit more independent and she’ll sometimes fly away from me to play on it or on the toys I’ve hung on the outside of her cage. Give your baby time to get used to it!

Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
Syd has 2 play stands. I made both of them based on a melamine tray. (Easy clean - easy transport) The one with a wooden post screwed vertically and various pieces of 15mm dowel inserted. The other has 2 smallish posts with a cross bar and a large java perch screwed to the cross bar. Both have closed screw hooks galore and are well toyed up.

The first one he has had since the early days of his tenancy and plays on happily. The other I made a couple of days ago. He looks at it, he even sits on it but the only game he plays on it at present is hide and seek. I hide he seeks. The only thing he is really looking for is either a treat or my shoulder.

I am currently depositing him regularly on one or the other because I am limiting his shoulder time after a nasty bite but I am expecting him to grow to tolerate his new perch as much as his older one. One thing he is teaching me is 'patience is a virtue'.

OK things just got real, normally clark's favorite thing is to trade I love you's and kisses where he put his beak against me and click/chirps a kiss. For the last couple hours he absolutely will not I say I love you or give any kisses....even in anouther room etc. No I love you no kissy....

I'm positive it has to do with the new playstand....the 13yo in me says make him like it...the 40yo real me is like.......I wanna have my kid conure love me!

it's basically bed time now he's doing the grunting for it....but I dunno what to do on this....if it was just acclimating him to it I felt I was doing it right a little bit a t a time...But now no kissy, no I love you...he's basically very P.O.ed at me and I'm not sure which training is healthier...keep him completely dependent or make him learn to enjoy a play gym literally 2 foot away.:gcc::mad:

Perhaps a middle ground is in order. Put it somewhere somewhat farther away, but still in sight, and just leave it there for the next couple weeks, gradually bringing it closer, and then try again after some time has passed and he sees it's not a Parrot Eating Monster (PEM).

Is Your baby potty trained Clark_conure? If not how do you deal with that? I am curious...my Ollie is potty trained. I find it strange your little one doesn't like the play stand but I had one like that and Ollie didn't care for it either but then I got one that reminded him of his cage and I filled it with awesome toys and he LOVES it. Maybe that is the trick, try to get him one that reminds him of something he already likes...Ollie's cage is black and playstand is the same black metal from Prevue or whatever that brand is. Hope this gives you some insight.

This is why the playstand I bought now sits in the basement. ;) I chose Yoda-love.

Aw bless. He still loves you it's just that you have changed things a bit and he is re-assessing the situation. Remember he is a control muffin and had you just where he wanted you and now you have upped the anti.
You have to be the parent and you know that the play stand will be good for him in the end. He just has to get inline with your thinking. Patience!

haha silly Clark

try playing with him on the stand? I'm sure batting a few toys around may pique his interest

to sunnyclover yeah he's potty trained...at least as well as attentive as I am.

I like him to go in the sink, If I don't regularly take him there he might say screw it and go off my shoulder... He will poop in his cage but he will not poop when we are on the bed together...ever. I think he sees it as my nest. So I might read for a few hours pick him up to go to the sink and a big dropping comes out.

I've kept the playstand next to me and in the last week or so I've been off (very busy), I've put him on maybe twice for maybe a minute....I'm just going to take it slow.
