I was wondering if you guys can give me some suggestions on which water cup to use for my GCC&Budgie(they live together in the same cage). Please tell me if you are currently using a water cup that is easy to clean throughly and not too open for my GCC to take baths-bc he is capable of taking baths even when he sees water spilled on the floor.

I use stainless steel because they are easier to clean. Plastic ones can cause bacteria growth and are harder to scrub. I do have one plastic bird bath in Bluebell’s cage, though, but she also has a stainless steel water bowl that she uses more often. The stainless steel cups would allow your GCC to take a bath however, but I see nothing wrong with that. My GCC takes baths even in the other birds’ bowls! His bath time is when I take all the water bowls out of their cages and take them to the sink to wash and refill them. He never takes baths inside his cage for some reason.

I got one of those stainless steel cups but Hydutt takes bath in it. I don't know why but I think it would cause bacterial growth and he would eventually get sick(This is what I think). That's why I am using water cups with small openings but I have to change them too often bc they cannot be cleaned easily.

Stainless steel all the way. Easy to clean, safe, and the birds cant destroy it. As far as the bathing I have to change the water several times a day because of all the junk Mushka puts in her bowl. Food, toys, shredding, herself the list goes on.

Stainless steel, food and water bowls. The water bottles , like you would have with hamsters, is difficult to throroughly clean - bacteria can be in the long tube. If you have a sterilizer or can boil it they are OK, clean with a thinbottle brust too, to dislodge any slime or crud build up. Plastic are ok if you bird doent chew on them.

Rule of thumb with water - if you wouldnt drink it, your parrot shouldn;t have to. We change Salty's 2 x a day, but he doesn't bath often in it and rarely dunks his food in it.

As a point of interest, in nature, some parrots prefer to bath in wet leaves! Like rolling around on wet Saran wrap.

If your GCC anything like our GCCs Petey and Baby, they splash water EVERYWHERE when they bathe. The water level in their water dishes goes down significantly, far more than they could ever drink.

Stainless steel is best. We have several so there is always a clean one available. They can go in the dishwasher, you can soak them in bleach (an ounce of bleach in a quart of water is plenty), best of all they don’t break and don’t get micro-scratches. The scratches are great hiding spots for germs and very hard to disinfect.

I gave Gus a drink once out of a clear acrylic goblet. You would not believe the gunk in the water afterwards! Just stuff washing off his beak ... the water was cloudy right away. I don’t think I would have noticed it in an opaque bowl. So we change his water often, even if it looks clean from a distance.

Honestly never looked at brands. Make sure tou get one that is easy to remove for easy cleaning. If you order online buy from a reputable source, I have heard of people ordering stainless steel online and getting chrome plated which chip and are not good.

Just a quick 2 cents.

It's interesting so many people like the stainless steel for water bowls, because I actually had an issue with them. I change my bird's water daily, yet I nonetheless noticed one day my stainless steel was rusting. Stainless steel can still rust if constantly in the presence of water. Now I use a ceramic dish for water that I place on a platform in my bird's cage. She bathes in it too; I haven't figured out a way yet to get her to bathe in something more appropriate. I wish I could find a nice ceramic dish with holders that attached to the side of the cage. That'd be a perfect

This is exactly why I stopped using stainless steel: they rust. After hearing so many people happy with them, I thought I was buying from wrong brand. I found one ceramic dish but it has screw to attach to the cgae with is not easy to remove couple of times in a day. Which ceramic dish are you using?

They work awesome for food, but for liquid I avoid them. Maybe it was the holder that's used in the dishes? i.e. it's not made of stainless steel, it rusts, and it then spreads to the stainless steel dish.

Whatever the case, I actually use a ramekin. It's normally used for people, but it's a nice size for birds too. I might replace it someday if I can find something I like that screws in well to a cage.

I was looking around just now. Potentially something like this might work well ? Especially the hooded feeder. It might keep your guy from bathing in it if that's your intention.

Yes I saw this one (thank you for looking for it and sharing with me <3). This is very hard to remove when I want to change the water. Unscrew&screw couple of times in a day is really not easy [emoji17]

There are different grades of stainless! The cheaper grade will rust! Also, bleach is a nono!

The one I used wasn't cheap, if I remember correctly. Which brand do you use?
