Yellow sided conure, Hana, hatched 10/10/17
She's been with me for about a week now and has adjusted pretty well. I've started her on a routine of being up at 7:30, she's given a cooked bean cuisine mixed with veggies every morning and on a diet of zupreem pellets offered 24/7. Low lighting around 8pm and she is covered with lights out by 9. She's really cuddly with me and my parents, however she does not like to sit still at all, whether she is on my shoulder on my hand and she likes to chew everything she sees. I'm wondering if it's because she's a baby and is just really playful. Are there any tips you guys have for me as far as what to expect down the road, will her temperment change and should I train her in other ways to make handling her easier in the future (I am training her to step up and step down, as well as potty train her)? I plan to towel train her once I've bonded with her more.

sounds like a good start to me! Yes conures are nibbly birds and are about 75% adrenaline so are constantly on the move. Being a baby she will be extra nibbly as she's exploring things much how a human baby does. I would say the one thing to practice as and when it happens is time outs when she bites. Not hard, just a calm "no" the second a bite is too hard and then place them away from you immediately and ignore her for about a minute. Don't go back to the cage literally just put her away from you and ignore her so she understands that a bite=boring and alone. When she hits puberty in 2 years she'll become a bit noisier and bitey-er for a few weeks then calm down. She will have a bit of a personality change, becoming more independent and less reliant on you but being a conure will still demand cuddles and play

xD good to know, I wasn't aware when they'd hit puberty and whether or not they go through mood swings like we do. I'll try doing the time out thing with her when she starts getting particularly nippy during play time.

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Young'un's are always on the move  BB just turned two and can't sit still..ant's in his pants. I can be sitting on the couch with him on my shoulder and he'll run around my neck, jump on the back of the couch to run as fast as his little legs will carry him, only to turn around and run back, jump on my shoulder again, run around to the other shoulder, back on the couch..run run run..you get the idea lol..repeat repeat repeat..makes me dizzy and tired just watching the little guy

I have zero experience with conures so the nippy thing with them I can't comment about. But I do know with Beeb's,he can be that way also, but it's only with my ear lobe!

XD thats what Hana does too, she likes to hop from my shoulder to the top of my futon (its always folded so its like a couch) and she'll sometimes look out the window for a bit, then run back to me. She's taken a liking to my glasses the last couple days and keeps trying to climb onto my head and chew on them. Might be because they're plastic rims just like the chains and rings on her basket swing that she likes to play with alot.

Me and Rio there used to spend time looking at the window, telling the crows to F off and saying hi to the Ringnecks. Plus observing the humans below. He quite enjoyed it

Haha! That definitely a routine occurrence. She has started looking out the window too, though she never ventures far from me for more than a few minutes and then she comes straight back xD I noticed though that when she cuddles up to me for head scritches she sometimes will fluff up and open her mouth like she's just repeatedly yawning. Does that mean anything in bird language?

I believe that's adjusting their crop, Rio did the same when he was getting scratched. I just take it as him being happy

It's a sign of contentment, I'm not sure if it's crop adjusting (probably), but it's a good sign regardless.

You've got a good bird. the nibbling everything is also fine. Just don't put up with a bite, put him/her on the floor with the time out method like lord triggs said.

So I came home early from work today and I found her sitting on her rope swing, completely wet. She wasn't soaked but it was enough that she looked haggard and I'm guessing she tried to bathe in her water dish. I tried setting a glass dish with a little bit of water and spinach leaves for her to play around with and see if she would eventually try and take a bath before and she didn't take much interest in it, but she also doesn't seem to like using a fine mist spray bottle either. Should I just keep trying one of those two to see if she will eventually become curious enough?

or you could try running the tap a bit in the sink and see if she'll splash under it

or as my conure would do jump in the shower, he would follow me when I had a shower and he enjoyed it, both getting a steaming and hopping down to get a tiny splish splash going

I haven't invested in a shower perch yet so I'll probably try the faucet thing, hopefully it works!

She sounds exactly like my Kyo. Kyo is always on the move! Always getting into things... there is no relaxing and hanging out with her, it's constant supervision and keeping her out of trouble lol.

I adore her. Enjoy your baby, through the good times and the bites. You're going to find yourself smitten before too long.

I don't have a shower perch either, he would hangout on me or just anywhere in the bathroom. He was particularly fond of the towel rack

We have a very large walk in shower so a perch would probably be a good investment for us xD and I have been smitten with her since day one. She's definitely been biting hard less often and she's not using as much force, but she still will bite hard a couple times and I have to put her in timeout. It's never been more than twice per session unless she's grouchy or wanting to eat. In the evenings when I come home from work she's gotten into this habit of sometimes lying down on my chest during cuddletime. I was a little worried the first couple times she did it because I'm used to associating that behavior with a sick bird, but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary when she's in her cage and she's still as lively as ever when exploring around my room. She eats as much as ever too.
