Paco. A hybrid conure.
Hi everyone! We have added a baby cockatiel to our flock. It is time consuming to have two parrots so now my flock is complete. My conure has learned so many things in the month we have had the cockatiel. Paco is my conure and Cherie is the cockatiel. So far Paco is very interested in her in a nice way but every time he goes near she pecks him and at first he just moved away but now he pecks a lil back but more defensively than attacking. I separate them as soon as it happens so it’s super hard to tell but one thing is for sure the cockatiel is the aggressor. The cockatiel has picked my boyfriend. She is bonding with him and so me and Prince Paco are not VERY jealous. Just a little. Since we got the second bird Paco has started to use my hands more. The lil baby tiel rides around perched on my finger. Paco saw this and now he wants to stop biting my hands and has started riding around on them. But he’s not got his manners just yet .. he bit me yesterday because I didn’t read his mind and stop walking so he could balance on one foot and scratch his head. Paco has been stepping on to my hand more and more and we use the wooden dowel less. Today Paco let me open his wing twice. He’s so hoppy. Are your conures hoppy? When I first adopted him he wouldn’t go in my shirt. But over the last few months I’ve been encouraging him and he started by cautiously sticking his head in... but tonight I opened my shirt and said common Paco and he hopped in full force from the pillow behind me. He’s still worried when he’s in there. Any noise and he’s gotta pop out to see if it’s safe. This morning I came home and he said to me “go to work” lol we heard him say good night one night but he never repeated that again. We heard him say it twice in the same night. So it wasn’t a mistake. But I’m wondering if he’s gonna start saying go to work or if it was just a one time thing like good night. well. Lots of love to you conure owners and best of luck. Ohhh and Paco is pooping on command but he’s got a total problem with ANY toilet paper, napkin, baby wipe, paper towel and will fly across the room and bite me if I blow my nose or eat with it and wipe my face ... it started when I started potty training holding a Kleenex under him and he freaked out. It’s just gotten worse. He hates any white absorbant paper products. Goes cray cray but the reason I shared that he poops on command is tonight I told him to poop first and he poops and it lands on the baby cockatiel on the floor below lol ewwwww

I find it very interesting that your cockatiel is the aggressor in this situation. Usually cockatiels are very laid back and non-aggressive (mine is afraid of other birds and loves people) and conures are the aggressors. My conure is very bossy toward my other birds, but he isn’t trying to attack them or fight with them. He “charges” toward the other birds and chases them off perches, but they know to watch out and fly away immediately. And yes, he does love to hop across any small gap, and sometimes hops from perch to perch to get where he wants to go instead of one straight flight. My real issue is that my budgie Pearl is in love with Ducky the tiel. She follows him around persistently but Ducky is freaked out and he flies away in a panic. It sure is interesting to watch the birds interact and to observe their little society :)

Today the cockatiel went on the conures favorite corner of his favorite pillow when we lay in bed. He ran her off and she flew on the floor. She climbed right up some folded clothes and jumped across back on the bed and climbed and waddled right past the conure and got right back in his spot again. He didn’t run her off the second time. They are testing each other’s boundaries.
