Green cheek conure suddenly vomiting, lethargic

I've had my conure for a year and he's a little under two now. I feed him totally organic food and give him a little bit of fruits and veggies every day it's been the same routine for a year. I don't own any teflon, I don't wear any perfumes and I never burn candles. He seemed totally absolutely fine until about 15 minutes ago he was sitting on my boyfriend's shoulder and he just seemed sort of dizzy, he was wobbling around a bit and then he started to vomit. It was clear with some chunks of his normal food. I caught him nibbling on a piece of day old popcorn that he found on the shelf next to where my boyfriend was sitting but it's just plain organic popcorn not seasoned at all, I took it from him anyway but I have doubt that's the problem as this was a couple hours ago now and I've given him this popcorn before but it's worth mentioning as it's the only thing other than his food he's eaten since this morning. After he threw up I tried to take him to a flat spot but he didn't want to be touched and he flew around sort of crazily up to his perch and he continued to wobble a lot and almost fall a few times, he looks like he's having trouble keeping his eyes open. There's no vet to take him to near me so I have no option but to wait until tomorrow. What could be the problem? Has anyone else had this happen or heard of this happening with a good outcome :( I love him so much I am a stay at home mom and my bird is always with me he is my little baby and I'm having a really hard time not knowing what to do in the mean time. He's my only bird as well.

Once a bird exhibits signs of illness, they are usually extremely sick, and need veterinary care immediately.
Praying he'll still be with you by morning. In the meantime, keep him as warm and comfortable as possible. Please let us know what you find out.

Thank you it's been about an hour and he is less wobbly he doesn't want to be touched still and he's normally very cuddly but he hasn't lost his balance I tried putting him in a box with a towel but he keeps flying out and going to his perch and if I try to pick him up he just flies around, I don't want him to get hurt or over work himself so I'm just watching him for now. He seems very drowsy but hasn't lost his balance for a while now. Will post again in the morning

before going to bed get an appointment for first thing in the morning with the vet. To go from vomiting and unable to perch to okay without treatment is as rare as you can get

Your bird is in mortal danger. I agree with Triggs; you need a first thing in the morning appointment!

When you got your bird, did you aver get him to an avian vet for a checkup? It could be something he's had for a while and just was never caught. I hope your baby Is okay. Please update us when you find out more from your avian vet as he needs to go there, this sounds like an emergency.

Thanks all and yes he's had checkups before I got him one just a few months ago when I got his nails trimmed
The previous owner was my sister's best friend and she also had a check up not long before she gave him to me. I had to wake up at 6am to stand outside the vet's office to do a walk in, there was no way for me to get an apt last night because it was so late and everyone was closed. By the time I woke up this morning he was completely fine. When he saw me come out to his cage he woke up and had some water and nibbled on his food a bit. The vet didn't find any virus that needed treatment and by the time he was seeing her he was back to his normal self. I don't know if maybe he got into something when my boyfriend wasn't looking, we don't eat anything that's not organic and any crumbs he might have found by where my boyfriend plays video games wouldn't have been anything that should have made him react that way :( So I'm just keeping him with me and watching him to make sure he isn't showing any signs of dizziness like last night but he's just climbing around and playing like normal. I'm happy he's doing good but also worried something bad is going to happen again but vet said she couldn't find anything that needed to be treated.

That's very curious indeed.

Such a serious set of symptoms that pass on really fast make me think of anaphylaxis in people. So I wonder if he ate something he was allergic to?

Depending on your climate and home there's a chance he got an infection from eating the old popcorn but it doesn't make sense that the symptoms passed so fast.

Other possibilities could be seizures or fits of some kind.

If he likes to get into stuff he's not supposed to (like many parrots) it's possible he ingested something toxic, like slivers of metal fittings, splinters of wood, or fibres. Do you have any toxic plants in your house? Any other kinds of aerosols?

If you're certain he's OK then I'd just keep an eye on him. Just try and make a note of everything that goes in his mouth (either mentally or on paper) and note any changes in his behaviour or demeanour.
(From my studies in animal care we use a term called "BAR" which means "Bright, Alert, Responsive" - it's usually a quick way of gauging wellness in animals. This might help you too.)
You can also reduce the variety of foods you feed and slowly re-introduce variety if you think it might be something to do with food.

I'd also keep your vet on speed dial (if you haven't advised him already) in case you need to rush back again.
I'm relieved I live in an area that has a 24hr emergency vet....

Oh that's great news! I was really concerned about him.
Could he have possibly had a little birdie seizure? I don't know that much about them to know if his symptoms could be related to seizure activity. Just thinking out loud.

My GCC Kermit gave me a similar scare Christmas morning. I woke up to discover my dad running in my room with a limp bird. She was completely limp for a good minute, then perked up and was sleepy for an hour, before she was as good as new. I had her completely checked out by a vet and she was the picture of health. I suppose some birds are just mildly epileptic ? Like anything, it's something to keep in mind. Keep vigilant of the droppings & their weight. Hoping that this is a one-off thing for you ! :<

good to hear that he is doing better, always better to run in and check than to wait it out

Did the vet do a Gram stain? They should always be mandatory when checking them out

Sorry all I didn't realize anyone had posted I didn't notice the page two lol... He eats Harrison's brand bird food and also I feed him organic fruits and veggies but that routine hasn't changed for the year that I've had him. I don't use any sprays of any kind and when I clean the apartment I pour plant based cleaner into a rag I never spray it and there's nothing he can eat that would be toxic I don't keep the plants in the same room and I don't have any candles. I also have two Alexa Pure Breeze filters running around the apartments for at least the last six months I'm no germophobe I just know how many toxins we breathe in every day and how bad indoors can get too, my whole life style is very conscious of toxins after the whole Flint water ordeal and when I realized no one is going to take care of me but myself which is why I always thought the health of my conure was bullet proof but now I know how wrong I was :( There's really been nothing new in my house I've been seriously wracking my brain over it I don't even wear lotions that he could have licked off of me :( I live in close proximity to the house next door I mean my neighborhood is really jammed together so I wonder if they were cooking with something and we had our bedroom window open which is only a room away. He is still doing perfectly fine I scheduled an appointment for him in another two weeks just to see if she sees anything different about him from the last visit

Also thank you all for replying, and yes she did do a test to make sure he didn't have any bacterial infections she also took some blood which I was really worried about I felt so bad he just had a whole horrible night and now he's having a bad morning but he didn't seem bothered by it for more than a couple seconds he's always been really tame he lets me lift up his wings and pick him up I didn't think it would be like that at the vet but he actually wasn't very bothered being there
