How will my Syd be being left alone for most of the day?

This Sunday me and my other half are off to his mum's to see his daughter for her birthday.....long story which I won't go into, split up parents battling over custody etc anyway.....we will be leaving home around 11-11:30am and likely won't be home til maybe 6 or 7 if we're lucky.

We've not left Syd alone this long before, she's had maybe 4 hours alone, 5 at tops but not a full day. What can I do for her to help her? Should I get up earlier so she gets extra time with us? New toys in her cage?

Obviously she'll have plenty of food in her bowl and I'll make sure she has the odd treat placed around her cage so if she wants something special she can look around for it.

When we come home obviously we'll let her right out, do you think for one night we could break routine and let her stay up later just because she's not had the interaction and exercise, or stick to routine and make it up to her the following day?

Good morning time, explain to her you will be back late. Triple check all safety items in the cage! Water, food, and if possible you could leave music playing( I don’t).

Yup do that. Television is fine as well if they like it. One day won't be a big deal as long as you make sure everything is safe and plenty of food and water. I would only worry if I had a bird that was prone to separation anxiety, plucking, or self mutilation etc.

We always leave the tv on, so that's normal.

I think I'll be the one suffering with separation anxiety haha

Honestly i wouldnt over worry too much for just a day being away. Just do lots of positive and fun things when you are back. Chances are that your lil guy will be so excited to see you once you get home. Let us know how it goes. Your birdy will be fine x

I have left Syd for longer than that just once. Unavoidable - so I made sure he had plenty of everything. I did get up a bit earlier and then let him stay up a bit later as well when I got back. I suffered for it the next day as he was a bit grumpy, but I reckoned that without me there he would snooze during the time I was away.

Apart from that he was absolutely fine.

Within the same day as this is a relatively short duration away, given adequate feed and water, your conure should be fine.

Given that it's unavoidable... being alone... I'd try to build up to longer periods alone. I know it will feel awful, but...

Maybe figure our the longest amount of time she's likely to be alone, and then get her accustomed to it. Liiiiiike... 4 hours, 6, 8, ovrnight...

Not often, but often enough so that you're confident that she wont freak out?

As long as you don't leave her for that long very often she'll be fine. If I have to leave that long I just put on the Disney channel and make sure food and water is fresh and maybe put in a new toy and some foraging treats and tell them "mommy is going to go for a long bye-bye".

Well the day is done and we're home now. I felt awful leaving her for so long cos of how much attention she craves, but once in a while we have to go out.

Glad I'm home with her now though, she's on the sofa playing with her new toys and I'll make sure later before bed that she has a good fly around as she's been shut in for like 8 hours

You might want to try leaving her alone more often so that she develops the ability to keep herself occupied.

When I'm home and I can, Nike is out. But when I cant I leave her in the cage and she is fine. If she hears me (or the front door) she might complain but that doesn't last long. I've even had to on occasion leaver for 2 days. Plenty of food and water, extra bowls etc and she's fine.

I've never noticed any bad behavior because of it and if anything, she's more clingly afterwards.
