GCC bathes in water bowl

Hi,

Our GCC bathes at least once a day in his small water bowl.

And then I change the water in the bowl. I don't know about you folks, but I wouldn't want to drink my bath water. :)

I've tried various types of bird baths in his cage but no, his water bowl doubles as his bathtub. It's pretty small, he can get his head and about half his chest in the bowl.

Solutions?

Solution.... continue to let him bathe! It's great for their feathers.

You could also try misting him or putting him an actual shower to see if he likes that. Have you tried either?

yea mine do that same thing. I can't get them to take baths anywhere else lol. I offer two water bowls in their cage, one that is too slender to take a bath in and the other is normal round one they can get in. At least they have one water source that isn't full of lost feathers and dirt.

Kermit likes to bathe in the sink. I let the water run and put a bowl underneath and he goes right under the faucet and soaks it in. Then he splashes around in the bowl and dunks his head in while fluttering his wings. Bathing is something you should encourage, be glad that your bird enjoys it. Some birds (usually not conures) don’t like water and their owners have a hard time getting them to bathe. Pearl, my budgie, is one of those birds. Ducky likes to be misted with a spray bottle, and Bluebell actually likes to bathe in wet greens. Each bird is different, and it seems yours just prefers his water bowl.

Salty will get a mist bath, I mean really soak him. Doesn't matter, he immediately runs to his water bowl to finish the job. I'm like 'Where did I miss on you buster?' . And he has a bigger water bowl, but surely too small for all of him. Salty is Meh on showers, hates the sink, and suffers through a misting. "Gimme dat water bowl, fool !".

Two of mine are bowl bathers. I found a larger bowl and they usually bath in that one. I also keep a smaller water bowl in the cage and hope that they don’t bath in it. I just change their water often :)

tried leaving a bath bowl for Hana, she also prefers her water dish. Though I know she's a daily bather and she's been consistently doing it in late afternoon or evening so if I get home from work early enough I give her a bath in the sink.

Yoda refuses to bathe in anything but a water glass.... preferably if we are trying to drink from the glass. I guess he figures if we like it, then he wants it.

He also gets the irresistible desire to bathe in a glass when I do the dishes. Maybe he thinks I'm bathing my hands and he wants to join the fun. :)

(Disclaimer: We don't drink after he bathes. And he doesn't bathe in soapy water, just clean, filtered drinking water from our R.O. filter )

I can literally take a shower with my little pearly conure and she’ll get soaking wet. She’ll dry her beak on a towel, get taken back downstairs and do this:

It’s unfuriating, but I’ve given up stopping her and just change the water more frequently.

My lovebirds also love to bathe in their water dishes. When I see them bathing I attach a bathtub to the cage which only means all three can bathe at the same time xD One in each dish and one in the tub xD

Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
They are all different. As a young lad I had a Budgie that just loved to stand under the kitchen faucet and bathe himself silly.

Amy loves the misting bottle in summer outside. I just put her in a low tree branch and I can empty three bottles of luke warm water on her as she spreads her arms as wide as she can, fluff up all over, fan her rudder and yell all sorts of Amazon gibberish. In the winter she'll sit on her perch stick as I take her into the shower with me,doing the same thing.

BB on the other hand says he is allergic to water  Once in a blue moon he'll sit in the kitchen sink with the water trickling then all of a sudden face plant himself to the sink, wave his arms frantically like he is have a seizure...other times he just runs away.

Smokey hated any and all types of bathing..would hunker down, lower her head, suck in her clothes and just stand there shaking her head..BUT...as soon as she was back in her house, she made a bee line for her water bowl...go figure!

Bumble - Pacific (or Celestial) Parrotlet hatched 02/19/17
Bumble prefers to perch on my hand and bathe under the faucet. After she gets started I also mist her. With one ridiculous exception, she has never bathed in her water bowl. That exception was when I took her to Virginia for Christmas and realized too late that her small cage didn’t come apart the way I thought and wouldn’t fit in a suitcase. I got on Amazon and ordered a cage that would be delivered the day of our arrival. It was criminally small, but it was only for 2 weeks. The little dishes that came with it were 1” square, and THAT was when she decided water-bowl bathing was a great idea. Birds are weird. [emoji170]

Yeah, the Rb bathes his head and chest in his water, and also gets misted and bathed n a gigantic wok, butttt...

The best thing about this thead are the precious pictures and stories of how adorable and adored our birds are! What's cuter than a soaked bird, no matter how he/she got that way?!
