Just picked up a 5 week old sun conure

Hey guys I’ve just picked up a 5 week old sun conure from a trusted breeder. I’ve owned conures in the last, green cheek, and another sun. Both I’ve got as babies and handfed myself. Sadly both I had to give away because I was still living in an apartment and didn’t have the dedicated time as I did when I first got them . Anyways...

This 5 week old sun conure I picked up today, the behavior is just giving me paranoia. I’ve tried feeding it, but it refuses too, and if I go near it, it opens it’s beak to attempt to bite me. I just want to make sure that’s normal for a baby’s behavior, as the other conures I’ve had DIDNT act this way. Will try feeding him again later . But if anyone can give me some reassurance

TAKE THEM BACK TO FINISH WEANING!

That breeder is not responsible and not to be trusted if they will let an unweaned baby leave.

It is the breeder's job to wean the babies, they do not bond better to someone who hand feeds them. Once again. It's the breeder's job to wean them! Why would you pay to do their job for them?

Hand feeding is such a tricky thing that when done even a little bit incorrectly it will kill your baby. I've watched videos and they make it look so easy but in reality it's very difficult.

This is what you want. This baby could starve to death and maybe already on it's way. Hurry!

I absolutely agree w/ LordTriggs!

I have seen this a lot since becoming a parront myself.
My question is, what is the appropriate age a baby can leave the breeder?
Is it based on the individual birds developmental stage or age? For example, when a baby has been weaned and taking solid foods and drinking well and thriving on their own for X amount of days/weeks? And that could be at 3.5 months or 5 months of age? How does this work in the baby bird world?

it varies between species but the common age is between 10 - 14 weeks. This is one of the instances where I find parent reared birds are better, they get fed as nature intended whilst a baby.
