How do I know if my sun conure likes me?

I just bought a sun conure about a week ago and he/she is six months old, he seems really friendly, will eat out of my hand, likes to sit on my shoulder and flies to me when I open his cage. If I try to pet him or touch him though he walks away from my hand. When he is on my shoulder sometimes He’ll be grinding his beak snuggled right up to my neck. I’m not sure if he is just getting used to me or what haha i’m new to this so I don’t really know how long it should take for him to really get used to me.

Sounds like your sun likes you! Some are just leery of hands and it will take some time to build a trusting relationship with him. He’s probably getting used to you and his new home, so move slowly and don’t force him to accept hands. If you move at his pace, I think you’ll have a really great bond with him. Every bird is a bit different - some decide they love you in a few days, some take longer to decide that they trust you. Mine were all rehomed to me (I have 3), and they were all different (hours, weeks and months lol). There can also be a bit of a honeymoon period while they get used to a new environment, so don’t be surprised if he suddenly gets bolder and you see some new behaviors after a few weeks.
