Hello, I have a 3 y/o conure named Jax. He has been a very good pet. However, recently he has found a hatred for cans and bottles. As soon as he sees one, he will fly at it and attack it. Unfortunately, he can't distinguish between can/bottle and the hand holding it. He has not had any sort of trauma for hating these objects so much. It is just like one day it clicked and he decided "I hate those!". Any of you have a guess as why? More importantly, any advice on how to shape his behavior away from this attack mode.

Well... when hes in his cage you can act like the can is your friend and have another large bird play with it. I honestly do not know why it he would hate it

I once fostered a bird who had a similar reaction to writing instruments ....pens, pencils, markers. And yes, that little macaw had trouble "killing " the pen without doing damage to the one holding it. I placed a ballpoint (minus the ink cartridge ) in his cage and let him do his worst. After a few days...he stopped giving them a second look. Good luck. Be careful if you use a can instead of bottle ...even a sliver of ingested metal could make your bird deathly ill. Use bottle instead.

Thanks for the replies. I will try both methods. I'll do one first for a week and then if that one doesn't work I'll try the other one and let you all know what the results where!
