GCC: Acts like hands aren't part of my body

For about a year now we've had a Green cheek who was instantly cuddles and social.
Up until a few months ago he wouldn't mind me having him step up, etc.

Now he acts out against my hands specifically and runs after them if I get them to close, even when he is content snuggling up against my cheek.
I feel like he either didn't lile the way I did something one time or has forgotten my hands are apart of my body.

He will get defensive and puff and lean against my neck while he is aggravated at my hands.

I've tried associating them with good things like treats and scritches.
I have been some what successful but its 50/50.

My SO on the otherhand has not had any changes. So he is the same way before my hand hatred towards my SO.

I have reduced biting to almost zero over the decades... not because I've changed the bird, but I have changed me. And a lot of that has involved giving up on a lot of my desires/expectations. After years of battle, I surrendered. I don't do stuff that gets me bitten. I NEVER do stuff that makes him mad... I don't touch others when he's out; I rarely try to get him to step up onto my hand first. Hand-held perch first, then hand. In some ways, I swallow my disappointment at having such a little monster for a pet, but he is what he is. I ALWAYS wear my hair down when he's on my shoulder, so all he can bite is hair. Really, I don't involve hands much... he doesn't like them. He seems to think the real ME is my head, perched on a weird moveable tree with questionable appendages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frustrating, but fairly normal! My JoJo, a rescue, was pawed, groped, grabbed, for over a year! He has been with me for over 4 years, every once in a while, he seems to be in ‘past’ mode, and when I see it, I respect his past trauma, and use a perch to move him about! Not using the perch only makes things worse, using it a day or two? Back to cuddling and kissing!

if this is fairly recent and if he's nearing 2 or is older it could be he's a little hormonal right now which is manageable. It also could like fiboy said be that he's remembering something from before you were around and having 'a moment' as I would put it. Or he could just be doing that crazy conure thing.

Funny you say about him forgetting your hand is part of you but I remember something about birds quite possibly not understanding that. Where our face is 'us' our body is like a big moving perch and our hands being separate entities.
