Jenday Conure
I bought my new baby at a big box store cause he/she (odin) was so friendly and lovable. I was told he was a Jenday conure, but after doing lots of reading and looking i have not seen one like him. Thought maybe you could help, he is my buddy regardless. His head chest and belly are reddish from neck down he is grees with blue tips. He was born 1/11/18 and just stopped hand feeding 2 days ago.

Thank you, odin is such a lover. Constantly wants to be with us, although he has been gravitating more towards me. Right before i snapped that pic he was doing big full wing flap. Usually he wants to cuddle up against my neck and make little chirps in my ear.

I saw in reading on here people take their conures in the shower with them? Really that is safe? How hot of water? Sorry im new to birds, wife snd i have wanted one for a while and ecspecially since we visited the exotic bird place in pigeon forge a couple years ago. I really wanted a african grey but was afraid to spend so much money on first experience.

I take my Conure in the shower, and place him on a perch (away from direct water, and ensure soap doesn’t get on him). He also loves being spritzed in the shower. Avoid hot water; warm is okay. Since they are wonderful cuddlers, it’s easy to dry them in a small towel and let them snuggle with you afterwards. I’m sure Odin will love it!!

That looks like a red factor sun conure to me. They're kind of rare and quite expensive so it looks like you scored all around because he is sweet too . Also please take a picture of his back so I can see the colors because the difference between sun and Jenday is in the back part of feathers mostly.

I have 2 Conures and I shower them with me daily. Just don't get soap on them of use too strong of a scented soap and make sure water isn't too hot. I personally blike a warm shower and that's perfect for them.

Good guess, Sunny! I was really scratching my head, but I think you're on to something there.
Gee, Odin is a darling. Oh, and I see he has established his position in the pecking order... right on top!

He even hold up a wing for me to rub him. I did find a article that talks about a more red jenday called the black eyed. http://www.voren.com/articles/the-gold-capped-jenday-and-sun-conures/ they also mention the sunday hybrid. One thing i noticed about odin is he has black feet but the eye ring appears white to me. And why are all my pics posting side ways grr...

Hmmm now after seeing all the pics I think he's just a red colored Jenday like you mentioned. Really really rare because I have never seen one before.

He is still very young and maybe he will change color at first molt, but i have found one or 2 pics online of similar color jenday but they say nothing with the pic.

What makes me suspect he's a Jenday is the total lack of yellow feathers on his wing. If he's a Sun he should have a least a couple.

The more pictures you post, the more he looks like a young sun. Also, that black eyering doesn't mean much... many birds kept in captivity do not get that black eyering, but birds kept outside *may* get it - depending on species.

Not all sun conure chicks are born with yellow in the wings. Some are *very* green chicks! I haven't seen anything yet to indicate jenday.

I do know that sun chicks can have totally great wings and back so I get where you're coming from MonicaMc. So my final conclusion is he's either a rare Jenday that's really red or a red factor sun conure that has no visible yellow feathers as of now. Luckily we won't have to guess forever and time with tell!

I am learning that conures can produce some really big bowel movements. I always get him out and immediately put him on his play top hoping he will go before taking his spot on my shoulder or back of the couch. I hope this isnt potty training cause i have read that can be bad, just trying to avoid having a massive poo on me. i really had no clue that much poop could come out of such a sweet little thing

A crossover Quaker Scuti (F), A Sun conure named AC, A Cinnamon Green Cheek conure Kent, and 6 budgies, Scuti Jr. (f), yellow (m), clark Jr. (m), Dot (f), Zebra(f), Machine (m).
regarding the shower what I do is start the shower tepid, like room temp. Clark takes a quick shower then he sits on a towel over the sliding shower door as I turn up the heat and shower myself. I keep the door closed so the steam keeps the room warm.

Lots and lots of people potty train their bird including me. It's not bad unless you're very rigid with it and punish your bird for pooping on you or an unauthorized area. If you're relaxed and you are kind and don't get mad is there is an accidental poop here and there then your bird will not develope any issues from potty training. What you are doing is a type of potty training because your bird will notice that you pick them up after they go potty and learn to go on the play top and then you'll pick then up and it's totally fine and helpful for both you and your bird. I have my 2 little ones trained to go on demand and
If they have an accident I just move on (they rarely do, mainly if they are upset or distracted). Also make it clear to your bird that they should go potty in the cage, some birds like to hold it when in their cage and that can become an issue if your bird is caged several hours a day. This last part doesn't necessarily have to do with potty training andsone birds who aren't potty trained can develop this behavior but also they can learn if while being trained. If I were you I'd train your bird to go on demand and not a specific spot because if it's just a spot then they may hold it until they get to that spot (not that likely but still possible).
