I have some great news to announce. I will be picking up my new feathered baby next Wednesday! He's a beautiful Patagonian conure named Zeke, and is in perfect health. He's quite the looker, too. I am so excited!

This is so exciting! Congratulations!

We should start having vitrual "baby showers" there are so many new babies coming home.

Thank you all for the congrats. I am so ecstatic. He has a personality that just melted my heart!

I forgot to mention, he's from my local rescue and nobody has really been interested in the poor thing because he only has one leg. He lost his leg at birth, when his captive bred parents had very little parenting instinct and chewed it off. Heartbreaking as it is, he gets around just fine.

Here is his story. Before he was brought to the rescue, his owner would take him to a nursing home with her every day, where he would constantly get petted and snuggled by everyone. When the owner of the nursing home stopped allowing birds to be brought, Zeke's owner had no choice but to leave him at home. Back at home, he got very little attention and began to scream. They lived in an apartment, so the surrounding neighbors became upset about the noise. Zeke's owner had no other option but to take him in to the rescue.

Pictures are on the way, too!

Are you a volunteer at this rescue? I was considering fostering a bird but have changed my mind at the last minute. My apt. is only 600 sq. ft. and I would have to move furniture out of the bedroom in order to quarantine the bird. I wish you well with the new bird and know that you are saving a little feathered life.

Yes, I am a volunteer at the rescue. I help to feed and water the birds, tube-feed the babies, clean the cages, and play with the exotics. That's how Zeke and I bonded, and how I got to see his sweet little personality. The owner of the rescue is going to give me a 'try before you buy' period of two days, and then I will make my final decision. She warned me that the little guy has quite the set of lungs on him.

I've always had a special place in my heart for rescue birds; their stories can bring tears to my eyes. I'm happy to finally have the opportunity.

Thank you for reminding me of quarantine, I totally almost forgot! I need to think and plan where I'll put him during that time, because I was thinking of having them in the same room.

So happy for you
a 2 day trial sounds good but very short a bird can't adjust to a new home in such a short time
he needs at least a week
good luck and wish you all the best
