Outdoor Aviary - Safe spacing?

Hello all,

I'm new to the forums (well at least posting, been browsing them for a while). I'm looking to purchase the below aviary so I can take my green cheeks outside with me, but am not certain on the spacing. It's been simple finding countless resources on bar spacing for birds when they are standard bars, but this one is a diamond pattern, so I'm not quite as certain. the inner dimensions of the diamonds are .62" and 1" diagonally (.59" along the edge).

What do you all think of this in terms of keepingin GCCs?

any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

In theory, it should be fine, but I'd still be rather cautious myself. Worse case scenario, you may need to get some safe netting or wire to put another layer of mesh over the cage?

It looks pretty fine for me! You might need some more mesh over the cage at the most, which should be easy to find.

Just make sure they have all the neccesary things in their aviary once you put them in there, and that they have plenty of shade if they need it!

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
1 inch to me sounds too big, potentially causing a bird to get stuck or escape.

What I would do is look at a GCC head and measure the squares of the aviary to be smaller than that to avoid any accidents

The spacing is 5/8" x 1", not 1" x 1" if that helps...

The floor will be a weak point, but easily remedied! I agree with the added netting, especially over the door to act as a safety hatch!

Whether it is safe or not depends on where in this huge World you are placing it!

- Do Not Buy or Install until you have check with your Local Government to determine what Building Codes maybe in place, in addition to what Permitting is required.

- As stated by many, serious upgrade for the floor. I would suggest concrete at least a full 4" (100 mm) deep and at least a minimum of 6" (150 mm) wider than the structure.

- Bolt the structure to the concrete

- Solid lock and locking devise for the cage door (two Places)

- Check what digging animals you have locally, also BOP you have like Hawks and Eagles, etc...

- What type of shading will you be making available.
