I have a 2.5 year old DNA tested male Jenday.

I've noticed over the last month he's been a complete brat. Normally he will let only me handle him without getting bit.

However for some reason over the last month any time I move my hands he opens his beak at me. And when he gets bratty, like his normal toddler self, he grabs. But now, at times, his grabs are hard. Deliberately hard. He will deliberately grab your hand and shove it away.

He's now drawn blood twice and he's never done that!

He still let's me roll him over and play with his belly and feet.... but he's been nasty with hands.

I've never dropped him, held him to tight, roughhoused with him, never even lifted a hand at him. So why his sudden hatred of hands has me baffled. Only my other handles him besides me and she's golden with all my birds.

Even if i'm holding him and try to pet him with my other hand he opens his beak and grabs. Normally just a hard hold but a few times it's been a bite and tear. He's been a complete snot with hands.

Is this hormones and he is just telling me off when he doesn't want touched? Or is this something else?

No one here would ever do anything intentional to him or the others. So i'm not thinking its from mishandling.

But he's got a good diet, and lots of enrichment stuff. Lately with me being sick his cage has been his main home because i'm the only one who can handle him.

I feel like i'm disrespecting his space :( ...but this is so odd for him with me. He still comes to his door for me and lets me handle him but he's just snapping and biting a lot and hating on hands.

He's normal in every way. Eating, droppings good, no stress, no plucking, no pacing, drinking and bathing normal. Only odd thing besides his snapping OS he licks his beak a lot. But i can't find anything in there or any damage inside or out. Reminds me of giving a dog peanut butter. :/

Any suggestions?

**Side note** nothing sticky in mouth. Breath smells normal as do dropping. And he will typically grind his beak after a few licks on the inside... top beak she the hook comes up to meet the wider part...that little lip inside.

Hormones are a beast. I am going through the same thing at the moment. My bird’s avian vet recommended to me to keep him as active as possible and keep him distracted with learning new tricks. Also to teach him to step up on a stick to avoid getting fingers battered when he is in a foul mood.I don’t know if that helps :) but best wishes
