I was just discussing with my hubs what an amazing bonding tool food is with regards to our fids and indeed any other pet.

Not last night but the night before, I was only present for an hour of Cal's out of cage time (shock horror, I know). I went for a bath and then bed as I'd had a busy day. Hubs stayed up playing xbox for the duration.

Last night I took Cal out knowing she was going to be a nippy madam as she tends to do this to show how upset she is when I've not been present lol.

Sure enough she was climbing all over me nipping anywhere she could find but of course, doing it in that sly way where it's so quick that when you look at her, your mouth formed into an O for ouch, she looks right back with a face that says: What? It was someone else.....

I had come prepared though. Freshly popped plain popcorn!

I started eating it (I do this on a twice a week basis and I swear it gets more revolting each time.....how I long for the sweet coating....) and what do you know? Suddenly, there's kissy noises being made in my ear with an accomplement of "oh's" and "thankyou's". I pass a piece to Cal who dives in and shreds it all over my shoulder. We then share the bowl. All her irritation and upset with my "sin" the night before evaporated!

It just astounds me how you can place any kind of treat or food into your birds cage where it is expected to go and leave the bird to it. No matter how favoured the food, it will NEVER be as much fun as sharing.

On a normal temperature day, Cal eats her breakfast while Dave and I sit beside her in chairs in the shop eating ours. She always dives in with gusto.

This became even more apparent to me recently when the temperatures have been so low here, Cal can't come into the shop. Her veg and fruit remains untouched unless I sit with her while she has a munch. It's clearly not as enjoyable for her alone.

It goes without saying that out of cage sharing appears to be better than anything in the world.

Such a simple requirement, eating with the flock.

I never realised quite how much I fulfill this small request until weather forced us into seperate rooms and how much she'd miss it if it's not there.

So, you'll have to excuse me, it's nearly lunch time and I've a little bird to go eat with! We're having spinich and peas....jealous?:54:

Nothing changes our birds' behavior faster than a bi of their favorite food. Instead of nips and bratty behavior, we get coos and "num-num" noises when walnuts, grapes, oranges or (especially) pomagranates are offered.

The stomach truly is the fastest way to their hearts.

Cal has such a great relationship with you and Dave, that she insists meal times are a family affair.

Okay there is a saying a way to a man's heart is through is stomach
THEN MISHKA MUST BE A BOY
If I want her to do anything, absolutely anything, popcorn does the trick

I have just adopted my conure and I am attempting to win her over with treats. I think it might be too soon though. For now I am just putting her treats (apples so far, not a big fan of grapes but I'm going to try bananas next) in the cage with her because she will not take anything from me, frankly she's not even too impressed with me reaching into her cage. Hopefully this will pass. I know its only been a few days but I just can't wait to win this girl over :)
