Update on Hana, my now 9 month old GCC

Sponsored Links
I haven't been around due to being much busier with work, now that survey is over (passed with flying colors btw, yay!). Hana's adjusted well to her new life and routine, and being the smart little bugger she is, she knows my routine well too. She's almost done with her first full molt, I've noticed more and more little quirks with her as she grows:

She likes to cozy herself up in my hair whenever I have her on my shoulder, but her favorite thing is having cuddles and taking naps in my hand.

She rubs her head on my cheek when she wants head scritches or wants to be held. If that doesn't work, she pulls my glasses off my face.

She gets fruit once or twice a week and occasionally when she is especially well behaved. Her favorite fruits are oranges and grapes.

She misses my boyfriend, who came to visit me in April . We voice chat often so she gets excited when she hears his voice over speaker.

She tends to fall asleep when I take her into the shower for a steam bath.

She hates the vacuum. I have to cover her whenever I clean around her cage or the room in general, she freaks out if she sees me vacuuming and thinks I'm being attacked by it.

Best of all she's made every day better, and brought so much joy to mine and my family's lives.

Here's hoping to many, many happy and healthy years!

Oh, dannnnng, is there ANYTHING cuter than a cuddly little GCC? I do not think so.

The Rb would let me hold him like that when he was young, but when he became a rooster, he decided he was too grown!

She doesn't like being grabbed but she tolerates a towel hold when I cut her nails. That's just how she likes to perch when she wants to cuddle. I cup my hand and rest it against my chest and she sort of slides right in on her own like she's getting into a nest, and if she lays down then I know she doesn't plan to move for awhile!

She's adorable...

One thing, and I hate to be "that person", but you should not ever feed your bird any type of Citrus Fruits! Any other fruit is fine (as long as they contain no seeds or pits at all, as most contain Cyanide, and they can choke on any of them), but Citrus Fruit is a big no-no...The acids in Citrus Fruits naturally increase your bird's absorption of Iron from anything and everything he eats, and birds are extremely sensitive to Iron, and can easily succumb to something called "Iron Overload Disease"...So you should never feed your bird any oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, etc.

Thanks for the tip, though I am curious as you are the first person to tell me citrus fruits are never okay. I've been told by both my breeder and a few other fellow parronts as well as online researching of my own that in small amounts, oranges are safe. Can't hurt to look into this fact a little more, though.

Please simply Google Search "Birds and Citrus Fruit and Iron"...I don't know why no one else has mentioned this to you, but it's true. I've not only been a bird owner for over 30 years and a breeder for over 20, but I also have a Master's in Animal Health Science...And there are other members on this forum that have also given this advice to new bird owners many times...But please, you're correct, do the research for yourself...
