Onions, garlic, salt, sugar, cheese, peanuts, caffiene, junk foods, mushrooms, rhubarb.... some things that have the potential to be harmful, if not deadly, to birds.

Cilantro is actually fine for parrots. :)

Parrots
Senegal Parrot named "Kane"; Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conure named "Bowie"; Blue Quaker Parrot named "Lita Ford"; Cockatiel named "Duff"; 8 American/English Budgie Hybrids; Ringneck Dove named "Dylan"
Good list by Monica...though we should point-out that things like "cheese, sugar, and peanuts" are not actually poisonous (peanuts in the shell are a main source of aspergilliosis, so avoid feeding your bird peanuts in the shell, like you can buy in bags), but these are foods that should be given in very small quantities very infrequently, as they are not good for them...I just didn't want the OP to freak-out, thinking that he poisoned his bird by giving him cheese or sugar....

Ellen, you are correct, which is why I said some things that have the potential to be harmful, if not deadly, to birds.. :)

I was gonna say wait cheese and peanuts? the rest of the list sure....but those two are ok for GCC. I mean get clean foods; but neither *small* amounts of cheese or peanuts (what he can steal) will hurt him/her.

Thanks galeriaGila for the good link. Not toxic, not excellent, but they manage...and the cheese thing has never caused clark any problems...he'd bite my finger off if I didn't share.

Aside from the plants that have toxins in them, I always think: is XXXXXXXXX available in the area where Salty is from ( arid semi-desert coastal area )? Cheese - nope. Plain Cheerios? Yep - its all grains and no sugars. Refined sugar - nope. Naturally occurring sugars ( like fruits) - yep. Bone marrow ( like in chicken bones) - yep. Pizza - nope . And so forth. Maybe SMALL amount of cheese, like a match head amount once a month? If Monica is correct, then even small bits of cheese would be a nope.
