My poor little Odin is going through his first molt he is just over 6 months old. So many pin feathers on his neck and head, i know it cant be comfortable. He appears to actually getting some yellow in on his head which will be such a change. He is enjoying a good scritches for a while then he nips a bit, i assume its cause he is uncomfortable.

Awe, that's terrible when they get so many pin-feathers at the same time...Sometimes a warm shower helps, sometimes you can actually help them if the pin-feathers are dry enough and ready to break-apart. You can very gently roll each separate pin-feather between your thumb and index finger and break them up for him...I actually find it sometimes easier to roll them between my index finger and the tip of my thumbnail, if your thumbnail is long enough to do so, it seems to be less painful for them.

The other thing that can help is some "Molt-Ease", which is made by Ecotrition and you can buy it in a good-size spray-bottle at any Petco or PetSmart. It contains both natural Aloe-Vera and Purcellin Oil, which is the same oil that they produce from their preen-glands and that they rub their beaks in and rub all over their feathers while they preen themselves...I've used it before and it really does stop their itching.

You need to be careful with the scritches... During intensive molting, Cytrynka wants to be scritched but if I touch some pin feather which is not yet developed, she sometimes panic screams and bites - definitely must be hurting her. But immediately after she seeks her scritches again.

Yup, bathes help, scritches help, and if you can help break up the pin feathers that's helpful also. But as others have said, they can be very sensitive so be very gentle. In general, they are less sensitive at the tips of the pin feathers, and once the tips start to break open the rest is easier to come off on it's own in time.

BTW, Odin is beautiful. :)
