My advice would to not use any. Birds are very sensitive to smells and fumes. If this is the first bird you have owned, maybe read the sticky posts on the site. For example, cooking with Teflon pans is a big no no. No scented candles. Also certain foods are toxic to birds as well. No avacado, no chocolates, no apple seeds or cherry pits. There are more “no no” foods so be sure to look it up when in doubt.

Birds are the best but they are sensitive creatures so ask away here or google it.

LOL ---If I knew I would tell you.
Again, there are so many mixed opinions on this, and very little (if any) research to prove safety. Many "alternative" sources will say there are safe, but again, these people probably haven't had their bird for a lifetime, and even if they had, that doesn't make it definitively safe for all birds (kind of like those 90 year-old people who smoke a pack a day without getting cancer)...

too much anecdotal info online for me to be convinced.

I avoid them :( (and I have a cute diffuser stashed away in my closet now)

Better safe than sorry, say I (the Queen of Paranoia).
I don't use any... who knows what's in that stuff, and in what proportions?
You can make your own potpourri (cinnamon, citrus peel, stuff like that) or just get some fresh flowers or even green, leafy stuff from the lawn or garden. That's wonderful, and so fresh.
Many of us don't have any synthetic scents or air fresheners or such.
The one-in-a-hundred (or whatever the figure) in such products that is toxic, well... too scary for me.
Good for you, for asking!

I am fortunate enough to be very sensitive to all of this stuff, long before I can smell it I feel it in my throat! If someone uses fabric softener on my clothes, another no no for birds, I get an immediate sore throat when I put the clothes on

Not going to lie....smelling neutral everything is boring (although again- I prefer it to the riskier alternatives). I need a pile of fresh flowers or something to liven things up around here.

Hi there!
I asked almost exactly the same question on the Q and A page a few months ago because like you, I enjoy using a diffuser. (This was before I got my GCC.)
I got a bunch of replies, most were of the "do not use" variety, with some saying "pure" essential oils would be safe.
I looked over all of the answers, did a little more research, and eventually decided that it would be better to be safe than sorry. I personally gave up that luxury entirely so that Nico and I wouldn't be worried about his safety. We have the window open (with screen, obviously), a lot of the time to make sure we've got fresh air and the room doesn't smell musty, especially with Nico producing a lot of that particular "bird" scent!
You should probably only use oils if you are very confident that your essential oils would be safe for your bird, or if you know your bird won't be close enough to be affected by them. I think people suggested using the real thing (e.g. using an actual orange instead of using a citrus scented oil, or growing lavender instead of using lavender oil) as an alternative. Keep in mind that no matter what the product, tea tree is toxic to your bird, and also air fresheners are a no-go.

Thank you everyone I really appreciate all the advise . I can use all fresh and natural items. But, the other reason I was asking was to figure out what we could maybe use as a natural mosquito repellent because I get eaten alive and of course won't use bug spray now.
