I have a pineapple conure. He is very sweet and loving to me and my daughter, he tends to leave my husband and youngest son alone, but attacks my oldest son (who is 9). Today he literally flew onto his arm and bit him. What can i do to fix this?

Parrots
Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
I am going to sound very nasty- but what does the boy do that annoys the parrot so much? Is he the most boisterous one of the bunch? Does he run at the cage sometimes?

Remember I do not know anything about your bird of your family - so I am just guessing.
So - this birds likes the female touch, but young boys have higher voices and not much bodymass too - your husband is tolerated/ ignored so deep voices and more mass do not matter, but I assume -just because he is an adult- he knows to move slower and not scare the bird. Very young childeren still move clumsily so are seldom perceived as threatning.
With nine your boy is (averagely spoken) at an optimum: he has perfect balance, his motorskills fully formed (within limits) and his reflexes etc. are *fast* => he is the best potential predator of the bunch!

is only one option of course ;)

Or maybe he is the most critisized/corrected etc. of everyone and the bird just goes after the one that is lowest in the pecking order...
Or he is insecure when dealing with the bird and bird it taking advantage of the situation.

Anyway- look at the dynamics between those two first and the entire flock as well.

When does it happen?
What happened before?

examples:

First thing in the morning- when the birds gets out of the cage bursting with energy or in the evening when the bird wants to be left alone but isnt?
(learn about the birds rythms and what it needs)

Does the boy want to touch the bird/ interact when the bird doesn't like it?
(in that case: educate boy about warning signals)

Does the bird go after the boy when it has been denied something it wanted to do by someone else?
(kick birds ass/ gently of course ;) <- just kidding, bird needs training)

... it is very hard to spin something out of the air that actually is true for your situation, so plze-- more details

.
