OK...
All you other conure owners out there.. Has any one else had a similar moment?

Sooooo i was at the doctors recently regarding a vaccination I have to have to care for Flying foxes in Australia (I'm a wildlife carer... long story)..
Anyway, the doctor asked me if I smoked, specifically if I smoked WEED!

Now this isn't the first time I've been asked this.. so I had the courage to ask why..
Was it my demeanor, my odor, my being an artist and a musician.. what, what is it!
Truthfully I was scared of the answer.

Its the many little holes in my tee shirt..
Holes in my tee shirt? Oh no no--says I-- I have a CONURE.

His face made me laugh- alot- before I explained! Ha ha ha best moment ever.

(apparently as weed is smoked little bits fall onto the smokers clothing it burns through the material)

At least this time I didn't have bird poo all over me (Seriously sometimes I look like Radagast from the Hobbit!)

Judging by that eye in the photo, the little guy is guilty as charged!

Living in a state where recreational marijuana is legal and has been for a few years, I have not heard of or seen anyone who smokes weed regularly with holes like a bird makes in their shirts. And knowing a lot of cigarette smokers as well as having smoked as a teenager, usually when the little embers fall and you get burn holes in clothing, it's near the belly or in your lap and outlined in black from where the fabric burned. This just strikes me as a very strange 'comparison' for anyone, much less a doctor, to ask about...

YES YES AND YES.. I had assumed as such.. but its not legal here so not openly spoken about so I have no idea how it would look?

All my clothes are black already, frankly the holes are everywhere from collar to belly.. so maybe.

But yes it struck me as strange....

Well, most of my t-shirts have Birdie holes too, as do my husband's. But I save a few for going out in public. When I get home, I have to do a quick change, or another t-shirt will go into the Birdie wardrobe....HA

I see an upcoming article in one of the Medical Journals decrying the loss of yet another method of searching out Weed smokers! Likely will be followed by something in the Legal News as well.

Hmmm, a World Wide Protest of Parrot Owners against unsupportable classification as Weed smokers! Likely followed by a World Wide 'GoFunMe' drive to provide all Parrot owners with new Tee Shirts that state: No! I have a Parrot!

LOL...I'm a smoker (cigarettes, I haven't ever liked weed at all, never my thing), and yes, my shirts have bird-holes in the shoulders and around the collars/necks and then burn-holes in the stomach and near the bottom...Obviously I don't wear expensive shirts often :)

While I totally understand the pre-judgement based on how you look/dress (I'm a life-long musician as well, and I love old-school punk, so yeah, people judge and make assumptions), I don't at all understand someone thinking you smoke weed because of holes in the shoulders/collars of your shirt. Whether you're smoking weed from a bowl, a bong, or just in a joint/spliff, I don't see how that is at all possible, lol.

Apparently this doctor didn't have much fun in college...

Ha ha ha your responses cracked me up guys!! I'm totally high on Conure (I do sniff my birds, c'mon is that weird or is it just me???)

I don't really mind the assumption, cause other opinions never really matter to me (if I'm being bluntly honest)... but I just never could figure out why!! Still don't think anyone who knows their smoking would think these holes have anything to do with it... Maybe they just think I'm poor ha ha ha (she cant afford new clothes look at all those holes!)
Like you said Ellen, this doc must have had a pretty boring time growing up!! Ha ha..

BTW how on Earth do you keep the holes to the collar shoulder area?? I have sunny holes ALL over my tee shirts!! Like really, if they weren't all black I'd take a photo to show!

It is VERY weird...to non-bird people:p:D

Not sure about conures, but amazons are well known for producing a distinct, pleasant odor when happy/content and a lot of owners sniff them because they smell good. I love when Kiwi makes his happy scent and totally sniff him. I think they use the odor to lure you in and get you hooked on them so no matter how naughty/evil they are, you still love them:27: But at least parrots naturally have no smell or even a nice pleasant smell. Most pets, especially mammals, stink.

As an Amazon Snob, I can tell you that they common avoid areas that are not a 'walk-about' type surface. Now if you're laying down, access is taken full advantage of.

Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
I am addicted to the smell of GAC, so guilty as charged.
Smelling macaw-in-the-morning took some getting used to.

Actually I smell my parrots more than I weight them - as a healthcheck.
It's always obvious if they are out of balance, the way they smell changes immensely.

Hmmm, now I want to go snif an amazon! ;D
(any volunteers??)

Nice idea about the t-shirts btw.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I have a secondary wardrobe for hanging around my house, as there is typically a bird on my shoulder, clinging to my back, or on my leg while doing chores, working at the computer, reading, etc.

Nothing purposely bought, just older clothes no longer suitable for public venues. Most have missing buttons and holes everywhere!

Previously the only holes I've made by a conrure were the holes made by her nails.. But now it's been around 2 month since Cytrynka learned to make the holes using her beak, so now she dives under my shirt and all I can hear is a muffled "click" - and there's another hole in the shirt. Now I need to remember to change shirts as soon as I get back from work :) Her favourite is my bright yellow "Cutty sark tall ships races" Tshirt, which (as we say) makes me look bit like sun conure :orange:

And yes, I do like to sniff her feathers so I also like to get "high on Conure" :D
