Hello! Every year I try to post a picture update of my sun conure, Boomer. I don't think I did one for 2017, so here's one I am happy to share for 2018. I thought it's a great way to mark a bit of recent good news. Last May, on his wellness exam, Boomer was diagnosed with 90% gram positive / 10% gram negative bacteria. He acted normal but I guess this could have escalated if left untreated. The bacteria is called Morganella which he says he could have picked up from anything - but most likely from veggies / fruits - even when they are washed well. A 10-day antibiotic treatment of Amikacin was prescribed. A few weeks ago, I took Boomer back for a follow up and another general wellness exam. I am happy to share that he aced his blood test. His culture test came back with 90% gram positive / 10% positive cocci which vet approves and is actually on par with his past cultures. Here's to my little technicolor chicken! Hope you like the pictures :)

Also, a momentous occasion caught on camera: My adopted parakeet, Eight, successfully followed the flock to the bedroom sun perch!! He was a breeder all his life and I don't think he ever really learned to fly because was never allowed time outside of his small cage. He's quite bad at it and I have a heart attack every time I see him panic fly and crash land. I have hopes that he will get better at some point. So proud of this elder bird.

Boomer is such a gem! A technicolor gem!

I wish I knew the secret to integrating new flock members. I was looking at a picture of Skittles on my monitor the other day and Skittles was on his deskperch playstand and I pointed to the picture and said to him "look at the pretty bird!" in my birdie voice and he got mad. I wish he wasn't so super jealous.

I think the fact that I never have company and am home with him so often, he's become super bonded to me and there is likely no changing that. Not after having him seven years.

To be honest though, I like our situation. I hate having people in my apartment anyways, lol. I like my privacy. So having him free-flighted is the perfect excuse.

I just miss having more birds. I'm really not a one-bird person. But Skittles says I am and that's too bad if I don't like it. :(

I suppose part of me exploits his "over-protectiveness" which doesn't help. But I grew up in a dysfunctional household with lots of trauma issues and ended up in group homes. The idea of having someone (even a bird) be so protective of me gives me a secure feeling I never had as a child. He makes me feel completely invulnerable.

But enough about me, lol. Boomer is just such a beautiful angel! I love how much yellow he has on his back! I'm also glad that he has aced his exam! Skittles goes for his annual soon, I've been putting it off for several months due to the high heat and humidity. It's been a horrible summer here for allergies and asthma. I am hoping Skittles is healthy!

I love the new Boomer pics! Sunnies always look so innocent when they are wet. Its the only way to truly mask their mischievous nature. Not to mention get them to "chill out" when they go all badass on us. lol.

Thank you for the responses. I'm happy you enjoyed the pictures :)

@Aratingettar: Maybe I'll enter that as my main one instead haha. I think I can, I'll find out ;)

@Skitty's Dad: I tried to play videos of himself to Boomer but I got a nonchalant reaction. The moment I play a video of a random blonde or strawberry red headed person with spiky or long hair, he puffs up and opens his beak at them haha! When he was younger he would even attack the monitor. As for flock dynamics, Boomer is quite jealous too. He is okay with certain things like me singing to the budgies, talking to them or cleaning their cages. He does not like me dancing to them haha. He tolerates them but is not best friend with them at all. Sometimes, I sneak up on the flock when I come home from work. I would I hear him 'chatting' with them in budgie speak. The moment he hears me put my key in the door, he's out of that zone. Like Skittles, he does not like visitors at all. It works for me because I'm such a hermit, and like you, now I have the perfect excuse. Oh you want to come over? Sure, please wear protective clothing and be ready for aerial assault. Haha! I do try to socialize him with my family though, just not in his territory. If you do get another bird, I'm sure you will give him/her excellent care like you do Skittles. Suns are so protective as bond-birds so expect a little or a lot of adjustment. Maybe none at all, if Skits likes the other bird. Best of luck and thank you for dropping by :)
