Well, Skitty is going for his annual later this afternoon. I can't say the 'word' just in case he happens to read it. lol. j/k.

While I'm anxious to get it over with, I'm also nervous. I'm hoping all turns out fine.

It DOES help that he is totally relaxed at the vet and doesn't give me a hard time about the travel cage nor does he get stressed out in the car or at the vets. It makes it easier for me cause I don't have to worry about that part of it.

I got a ride thats only going to charge me $40. She's the same person who took me last year. She's been very helpful with my ankle injury. She took me to my Ortho appt and also for my MRI and also is taking me to my Ortho follow-up on Monday.

Anyways, appt is at 4p. We leave here at 3p (vet is an hour away). Wish us luck! I'll let you know the results!

Keep my fingers crossed for Skitty's results. But with your care, I'm 100% sure he'll be better than in great shape. I'm just not sure who's more nervous: is it Skittles (why do you think he needs to _READ_ it to know what's going on?!!) or is it You ;)
Good luck, all the best!

Hey folks. Thanks for the well wishes. Unfortunately, my ride backed out last minute. Can't say I'm surprised, she pulled the same stunt last year but was finally able to take me. I HATE having to cancel last minute.

She doesn't want me to go because of my ankle. Which makes no sense to me. The doctor said I can walk on it if it doesn't hurt and it doesn't. I'm fine. I"m pissed off, but I'm fine. I don't like other people trying to use my health as a cop-out.

Sadly, I'm limited with transportation so I don't want to go burning any bridges, so I have to swallow my anger and not react. I don't think she realizes that rescheduling is doing more harm to my health than going.

Thanks folks!

The frustrating part is that the ride I had lined up this year is the same one that cancelled last minute last year before following through and taking me.

My best friend/neighbor-Lori is convinced that the lady used my ankle as a copout and then faked an anaphylaxis fit. She is convinced she is allergic to her cat and yet she isn't having the symptoms non-stop. They are sporadic.

Anyways, I can't deal with these last minute cancellations. Its too much stress. So a friend of mine says her mom will do it and I'm hoping she follows through. Down side is that the soonest the vet can get me in is Sept 5. IF I see the vet Skittles is used too.

I got the appt rescheduled for next Wednesday afternoon (Sept 5th). I have a ride lined up, the same lady (but she swears she won't cancel last minute this time and she doesn't want me to pay her- just pay for gas and tolls). I'm gonna give her a second chance and if she backs out again, I have one other option to consider. I just want to get it over with.

Skittles has been super cuddly with me since my injury. Normally, when I am in my la-z-boy he won't sit on the chair. He'll either sit on my knee or on his nearby playstand. But the past week or so, he's been climbing up to my shoulder and pressing against my neck and climbing inside my shirt. I've noticed he's been VERY "clingy" the past week. He's always been a clingy bird, never letting me out of his sight, but usually as long as I'm "nearby", he is fine. But lately, he feels the need to be right next to me.

I don't mind it to be honest. I wouldn't care if he wanted to stay on me all day long, I like cuddly and clingy birds. I also know its very likely due to my injury. I am still dumbfounded by his reactions. I don't know why I am, its just amazing how "in-tune" he is with my feelings. He is more in tune with how I feel than any "human person" I know. Sometimes even more than I myself am in tune with. It's just incredibly fascinating.

I totally remember reading the vet visit thread from last year where the lady cancelled last minute. That's crazy she did the same thing this year. I have limited driving capabilities personally so I sort of understand. I have an irrational fear of getting lost so therefore can only go somewhere that I've practiced driving to with another person several times before I can drive there myself. If I do feel lost or think that I took a wrong turn I freeze up and then problems can occur.
May I ask why you don't drive? I didn't get my license until I was 27 myself.

I never learned to drive due to anxiety and trauma issues. There were a few times over the years where I had "good spells" with little anxiety etc, but I always seemed to end up back where I was whenever a significant event occurred in the country. Up until 2011, I practically NEVER the house alone (and even then, it was rare for me to leave period). I would be escorted to drs appts and had caseworkers to take me shopping. I isolated tremendously. So getting my license was never even a realistic possibility. We have a pretty good public transportation here in town that'll pretty much take you wherever you need to go (along the bus routes) and my medical insurance pays for transportation to appts that are covered by that insurance (if the appt is not on the bus route or is out of town).

After getting Skittles, things got better over the years. I now go out practically every day (at least 5 out of 7 days) and while I often go with my neighbor, its more for social reasons than anything else. I have made numerous friends that ride the city bus I take and even some of the Walmart employees are my FB friends, they friended me! I no longer take anxiety medication (other than the preventative one which is actually an anti-histamine-go figure) and I only take the anti-psychotic PRN but haven't used it in months.

I wish I could understand how Skittles was able to do what years of therapy and medicine regiments couldn't do. When I got him, I was in one of the worst place in my life. Incredibly lonely and contemplating suicide. I wasn't very med compliant, I was taking anxiety medication and anti-psychotics for racing thoughts. Which didn't do much without regular compliance. While I was NOT in the market for another bird, he could not have come at a better time. After seeing Skittles reaction to my leg injury, I can't help but wonder if he sensed the emotional pain I was in when I first saw him in the pet store and he picked up on it and knew I needed him. While I still take medication for my bipolar and OCD, I am nearly 100% med compliant now and I haven't felt "lonely" in years.

I just can't believe how much I've grown as a result of having him. Sorry for the rant, lol, just wanted to explain it- plus I like to brag about the way Skittles reacts cause I just find it so incredibly amazing.

Well, I rescheduled my appt with the vet for next week (the 5th) and I had a ride all lined up but she just cancelled on me (the same one that cancelled on my last minute but wanted to make it up to me).

So my friend/neighbor is going to ask her mom to take me and Skittles to the vet. Hopefully, that will work out. I know this, next year I am saving up and going to see if I can hire an Uber or something (since taxis are ridiculous) but even Uber is expensive.

That's terrible! Good you still have few days to work things out. I can't understand, doesn't she realize how much trouble her empty promises make to you, Skittles and his Vet?

Uber also came to my mind, as an option for independence. But I don't know how far you live from your vet.

My friends mom backed out today, so I'm back to the original person who said she'd do it. I'm going to check with her tomorrow and again on Wednesday (day of appt). At least with it being September, I'll have ALL summer next year to find a ride! I was postponing it this year so much cause of the humidity.

Have you tried to file them? I find filing safer than clipping, and then after clipping I also needed to file them anyway to make them easier on the skin (Cytrynka spends plenty of time on us, so it's important).
