Conure has chosen me...for the day at least!

So I lurk a lot and don't post all too often! I have two kids a CAG and my white eyed conure! Both birds prefer my husband. My CAG easily steps up for me though and doesn't hate my guts. My conure, Regen? He will strike at me...bite me...protect my husband from me...etc. he gets very aggressive towards me when he is on my husband (we've been working on shunning this behavior and doing step up training with me). If I'm the only one home, he's a snuggle bug with me.

Well low and behold...today he chose to sit on me after work, even with my husband in the room! I feel like the step up training must be doing something! I plan on target training him as that worked wonders with my CAG but for some reason I've put it off with Regen. Anyway, just wanted to celebrate a huge victory with some like minded folks! <3:D

Congrats! It's the little baby-steps that really show they are getting it and warming-up to you. That's actually a huge step though, if he was as aggressive towards you as you describe...I love White-Eyed Conures too, you rarely see them but they are so beautiful, and very unique Conures...apparently stubborn too, lol.

Target-Training would be a great idea, if the "shunning" and step-up training has gotten him this far, the target-training should get him the rest of the way. And I don't know how old he is, but sometimes, one day out of nowhere, they just suddenly decide that they like you now, lol. So maybe he's changing his mind about you, it happens quite often.

He came over to me again today and he's sitting with me!

Yes - white eyed conures are so gorgeous! I wish they were more common in the pet trade! I got him as a rescue. :)

He can be quite stubborn when he wants to be! :)

I think I'm going to go ahead and start target training him. I think he will like it.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
You and Regen has struck a huge breakthrough! Hopefully he will be receptive to target training and become consistently loving with you!

Is he still adoring your husband?

He still adores my husband and sat with him today for most of the day! But he sat with me for about 20 minutes and has started target training (and seems to like it)
