Well, I found a friend or rather my mom did.
She went to a cook-out and he flew in her hair and yelled----Cockatiel's a good boy
I am trying to train him now I was wondering if any one has heard of this book ------- Raising Polly: How to Raise A Healthy, Happy, Well Adjusted Bird

Just a point, but have you tried to find his owner? I don't know where in the world you live, but there are several websites that are worldwide and are the best resources for reuniting birds with their owners. Parrot911 is probably the best and most well-known, along with ParrotAlert, and then also the many pages on Facebook, as well as your own local Facebook and Craigslist pages. If you haven't already you need to post him as being found on all of these sites, along with taking him to any local vet to have him scanned for a microchip, any vet can do this and it's free. Microchips in birds are becoming very common and he may very well have one. Also, you should contact all of your local Vet Offices, Pet Shops, Rescues and Shelters, etc. and let them know that you found a lost Cockatiel, what area you found him in, and give them your personal information so that if and when his owner(s) come in looking for him or asking to post flyers, the people in these establishments will be aware that you found a lost Cockatiel and they can call you with the person there in the office with them.

This should always be your first thought when you find a lost pet...And he's obviously someone's loved and very missed pet, as he speaks in sentences. That is a major red-flag that he belongs to someone and that his owner is missing him and probably losing their mind with sadness and worry. So please, do the right, responsible thing and post him as being found on all of the above websites, and make the necessary phone calls to all of the above places to notify them that you've found someone's pet...Also, just an FYI, if you live in the US then you are actually obligated to make a reasonable attempt to find a lost pet's owner, as pets are considered "personal property" in most states, and if you find an animal that is obviously someone's lost pet, and you just decide to keep them and don't make an attempt to find their owner, you can actually get into both legal trouble as well as being the focus of civil litigation. This just happened to a guy in California that found a Cockatiel, ironically, and immediately posted it on his YouTube channel, talking about renaming him and him now being his. Just to give you a head's up...But that shouldn't be the reason that you try to find his rightful owner, you should do that simply because you know that someone is missing him terribly and is worried to death about him...Oh, also, check all of your local Craigslist pet pages for his owners posting that he's lost, as Craigslist is usually one of the first places that people post when looking for their lost pets, as well as Parrot911 and then Facebook (Community, then Pets, and go out the full 200 miles that Craigslist allows you to search)

Agree with the other two. I got my FIRST bird for my 11th birthday, a budgie named "Sandy" (my mom and I watched 'Flipper' together lol).


Well, one summer afternoon, I was doing what 11 y/o's do, showing off my cool, pretty bird to my friends and I left the door open and he flew away. I got him back 2wks later because the older couple found him, he was very friendly to them (Sandy was friendly to everyone) and they knew he belonged to someone so they put an ad in the newspaper. My ex-stepfathers girlfriend saw the ad and notified my mom.


I was a wreck when Sandy flew away. I left his cage out with food and water and would literally sit by the window for hours crying hoping he would come back. I still remember playing the Mike & The Mechanics song "All I need is a miracle" over and over. I was sooo happy when I got him back.



Since that happened, I NEVER took ANY bird I owned outside without using a clasp lock that they couldn't undo. Never again, I said.
