Green Cheek Conure,
Lovebird in Birdy Heaven
Hello, new mom to a GCC here. I have two requests for help.

1- I would like a tall cage that sits high off the ground that is sized for a GCC, we will have her in the living room where we all hang together and we have a large dog (they are never unsupervised and she is never out of cage without him being in a different room). Right now we have this cage that used to belong to our Lovebird:

I like it that it sits high off the ground and am looking for a similar one that sits up high but can be rolled to other areas for cleaning. I would like to find a taller cage and a bit larger with good bar spacing. Prefer a non playtop as we have a separate open playground. This cage is 12 years old and getting a bit old plus it has it's cons.

2- She does not like the large cage, we have had her for 2 weeks and hatch date 4/14/18. I have ropes going up and down and small perches, one or two toys not to overwhelm her. She goes in climbs to the very top and stays at very top. Won't move. Then she flops down (she came clipped) which scares the life out of me. So right no we have her in a Vision Cage which is meant as a sleeping cage so we can take her to a quiet room and she can get 10 hours of sleep or more.

this is not my photo but one for size comparison:

We have been leaving her in there when we are not home, when we are home she is out of the cage 90% of time because she seems to feel safe and happy but of course that is too small of a cage for her. But I worry about her falling in the larger cage when we are not home to help her (right now she is only in large cage supervised). I also have a bird camera to check on her when we are not home. I would love to transition her to the larger cage for now until we find another perfect cage!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clean the lovebird cage really well and use that one. Your Conure won't spend all that much time in his cage anyway. That's big enough for a Conure. Wider is better than taller, by the way. Just make sure he gets lots of cage free time.

This cage I have for my cockatiels is great, high off the ground, big door and its wider than taller which is ideal for birds (I've had taller cages and they never utilized the bottom part of the cage).

This one on Amazon is very similar, the single version. $114.

Wider is better than taller when it comes to cages, and the flight cages are great! I have an A&E flight (32x21) for my cockatiel. My green cheek is in an HQ 32x23 dometop, however this one is a bit more expensive than the flight cage. Both are great!

The cage you have now could work, but personally I prefer larger cages. Conures are very active birds, and will appreciate all the space you can give them.

Obviously, everyone has opinions. Mine is that I'm not a fan of Vision cages.

I believe Yaheetech currently has cage measurements ~ 20"×~22"×~31" on casters making the total height ~68" but don't know the bar spacing for ~US$100. I believe it has seed guards, too. Try walmart.com, amazon.com or bhg.com for information.

You might also try Nova Microdermabrasion midsize ~62" with playtop because it has a 0.6" bar spacing, but I'm not of the actual cage size but think it's around the same with better entry and food doors, locks and seed guards and is also up on casters for the same price.

Drs. Foster and Smith is also a good place to start but now have overpriced options since Petco bought them.

Good luck!

I use my tall cage shelf regularly. In fact, I'm looking at one in use right now. I have a birdroom with multiple cages and some have the very used shelves of which you speak. I chose to purchase furniture with drawers for the smaller cages.

Additionally, having those cages on casters allows for easier movement to aid in cleaning.

I believe the main differences between the Yaheetech and the Nova are doors and removable cage. My WCP has a Nova while my smaller conures have Prevue from long ago. My larger conure has a Giantex also bought long ago. These are all wrought-iron.

How tall is the HQ from the floor to grate? thanks!

Well, the total height is 65” and the cage itself is 40” tall, so that means the height from the floor to the grate is 25” :)
