So I'm considering getting a space heater, and of course as every good parrot/bird owner knows, teflon is dangerous as is off gassing of any kind. So I was was considering this space heater
Patton PUH680-N-U Milk-House Utility Heater
That's the name of it. I'm purchasing it off Amazon. There are a few questions and answers about it that are sort of reassuring that it is safe. But it is of up most importance to make sure as much as i can. Does anyone on here have this specific space heater? If not would you think this one to be a safe bet? If you would not reccomend it is there a specific brand and model that you do in fact for sure know is safe or use around your own birds? Any advice is helpful and welcome! Thank you for your time!

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
not seen that myself, I would vote to give the manufacturer a cool and ask if it has any Teflon in it. If they're not 100% sure then back away from it

I have 2 - a small one and a larger one - the make is Delonghi. I don't know if that's available in USA but I called the manufacturers before buying to make sure it was teflon etc free.

I'm in the same boat so to speak. Autumn has come to Pennsylvania (USA) and I've been trying to figure out what space heater to use for our main room. I'd love for someone to just say "here, this one is safe."

We can get delonghi from Amazon. Which models do you have T00tsyd?

It looks as though they are available in USA. Google Delonghi USA. They are available with Amazon here in UK so give it a try. I have a 1kw oil filled radiator that I use in Syds bedroom and a 2kw that I use in our living area. I understand that all Delonghi appliances are safe for birds.

It's best to always call the manufacturer before you buy any type of appliance that can potentially contain Teflon, such as space heaters, blow-dryers, stoves/ovens, etc. This is becoming such an issue that most manufacturers now know all about the Teflon/PFOA, etc. issue with birds and just in-general, and they can usually answer the question pretty quickly...and as Triggs said, if the manufacturer doesn't know, don't buy it...

When you call to inquire, make sure you give them ALL possible names: "Teflon, PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylen) and PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid). They will need abbreviations, and full names because with abbreviations only, they may overlook things when investigating. Make sure they check for all of these.

Thank you so much to everyone for the great advice! I'm not even sure this space heater and my bird will ever be in the same room together. But the idea of even owning something that could kill my bird gives me gut wrenching anxiety!
:) all your answers and comments were very helpful! <3
