I know taming and training new birds have been discussed and I know what to do and how to handle my new baby. Still I feel a need to post. I donā€™t know maybe for assessments/opinions. I did not want a in your face cuddly engaged bird like Pampa but I do wonder if this new guy will get more playful.

my new fellas history as I know it. I ā€œassumeā€ he was hand fed. I assume he was purchased from some bird show and put up for sale at my local pet shop where he stayed for two years. Some one purchased him and returned him because he was/is not cuddly. Then he was purchased a second time and lived with a family for a year. He doesnā€™t bite and is finger trained but doesnā€™t really want to get on your finger, but with clipped wings he has few choices. He likes to get out of his cage and just sits on top of his cage. He plays very little with his toys. I bought him from his owner of one year. He was mostly on a seed diet and only had two toys in his cage. However he was out of his cage and handled by the Family.

I have only had him for a few weeks and he is adjusting. He appears to be content enough. So my question, or my pondering is ā€œis this it?ā€ I got what I wanted as far as not demanding all my attention as Pampa does, but will he get more playful? I will let his wings grow out and work with him to like getting on my finger for treats, and maybe even for attention. I have read that PFCs are more independent and less cuddly from other conures but I would like to see him more playful and engaged rather then just sitting all day. He will communicate to me if he needs/wants food and if both Pampa and I leave the room he will call so clearly he appreciates having me or Pampa in the room. I have not had he and Pampa our together. Pampa is on my shoulder as I feed and water the other birds. Pampa has not demonstrated any aggression or jealousy.
Thanks.

Hello, I think there is every reason to believe you can have more interaction and play. I don't have peach front experience. But my rescue quaker Penny becomes braver and does more every day. I've only had her two months, but this past week she really started breaking out! After such a rough start I'm sure he has major trust issues, just like a foster kids that is passed home to home!!! Thank you for providing a fire ever home at last! I get sad at the emotional damage so many Parrots go through. But then there are people like you, who except them for who they are, but want to enrich their life as much as possible!! How about Pumpkin Patch for a name ;)

Oooooooooooooooooh, yes, the little darling is still so new!

In any event, you're a hero for taking the little guy in. He has really been through it, huh? I wonder if he is waiting to see where he goes next. His trust has been shattered at least twice. I am so happy for him. Eventually, he'll realize he hit the jackpot with you.

Thanks for sharing.

Pumpkin Patch is a great name! I am wanting s Spanish name. So far nothing has stuck. Maybe Pito, which means whistle. He/she makes a lot of whistling sounds. Amestoso friendly or pajarito birdy. Or maybe a simple Jose or Alma Or Mija or Mijo.

Hello! How about Pumpkin Patch for a name ;)

Oh my gosh Laurasea, it has been almost a month since this post. I have tried so many names and nothing seemed to fit. I have finally settled on Pumpkin Patch. I like both name together and individually. It so fits not just because she has a pumpkin colored patch on her crown but because I got her in the fall. Such a creative name suggestion. Thank you so much.

I havenā€™t taken one picture of Pumpkin. Tomorrow I will take some pictures and post them. The poor thing has been full of pin feathers. She wonā€™t let me help and her and Pampa arenā€™t good enough friends, yet. I have been waiting for her to look a little better.

Have you misted her? That helps with pin feathers, and if she will bathe. Is she getting Boulder yet? Trusting in her wonderful new home more? I will think she is beautiful and wonderful anyway. :)

I havenā€™t misted her but I have seen her bathing in her water dish.
She still isnā€™t particularly playful with toys. A couple flight feathers have grown in so she is able to fly. She is still shy but does step up, I donā€™t force her, I want it to be her decision. Just for the last week I have been bringing her room to room with me and Pampa. 50% of the time she flies back to the playpen on top of Pampas cage. Pampa and Pumpkin are coexisting without drama. I think she is intimidated by Pampa. Pampa has a bold personality and is about 5 inches longer. Pampa is an excellent flier and Pampa flying over head scares her. Just this weekend I introduced the Budgies into the mix and Pumpkin seemed very interested in the smaller birds. She likes attention but is still pretty shy and uneasy. I think she is a little bit sad.
