Potty Training

I've been working on potty training my GCC Momo pretty much since I got them. We've got to the point now that Momo will go potty when I ask and seems to know where I encourage them to go but I still can't seem to stop them from pooping in other very unwanted places.

Is there something I should be doing to prevent this that I haven't thought of?

It's very frustrating because the mirror and my laptop are favourites places of Momo and I'm constantly cleaning them.

I potty-trained my Jenday Conure, but it ended up being another problem because he would ONLY go if he was on my finger. Which is a long time to hold it when I was gone at school 7-3 and then had swim practice 4-6. It wasn;t good for him to hold it that long so I abandoned it.

Now, instead of potty training, I just wear a daily-changed out 'poop shirt' where birds can poop on me and I just change it for anew one the next day. I also keep paper towels and wet wipes handy for those other messes.

You could try laying a piece of paper towel under the part of the laptop where he goes or under the mirror? If you are still adamant about potty training, just be very consistent where you want him to go, go there every 20 min and tell him to go. Wait until he goes and then resume whatever you were doing before. It takes patience but if you are home a lot of the time it would be worth it.

There are mixed opinions on the ethics of potty training. I would encourage your bird to go in the same area, but I wouldn't get too ridged about it. You don't want them holding it in and injuring themselves, or forcing it out to the point of prolapse.

My bird is pretty potty trained...I will say that today she pooped on my keyboard and she NEVER goes anywhere she isn't supposed to (unless scared)..pretty sure she did it on purpose LOL.
