GCC Rubbing Hand w/Butt

Whenever I put my hand vertically on it’s edge on my GCC’s cage, she’ll back up into imy palm and press against my hand with her butt. It’s cute, but I heard that sometimes GCCs rub their butts against thing as a sexual gesture...? What do you guys think?

It's most-likely that she's actually masturbating on your hand, or trying to, especially if she is "moving" her vent/butt against your hand...I don't know how old your GCC is, but this is a very typical behavior for female birds, and it is definitely not something that you want to encourage AT ALL, because it will only serve to keep her hormones raging, and more-importantly she is going to become extremely frustrated that you are not able to "mate" with her, and this often leads to them starting to bite/attack you out of frustration, even if they are very tame, sweet birds.

You need to not put your hands in any position/place that you know will encourage her to do this, and any time she does start to do it you need to simply pick her up and put her back in her cage or on her stand, etc., and then walk away and give her a few minutes to calm down. She needs to know that "it's just not going to happen" so that she'll eventually stop trying. The last thing you want is to accidentally encourage her to continue to try to masturbate on you and then start biting/attacking you out of frustration.

Again, I don't know her age, but if she is around 1 year-old then she's probably going through puberty, and her hormones are going to be bad for the next couple of months. If she's older than that and has just started doing this, then she is in a hormonal-period and has just discovered that she can potentially masturbate on your hand, and you need to let her know right away that it's not going to happen...

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Even though BB is a male cockatiel at 2.5 years old,he does the EXACT same thing:mad: and it p.m.o. big time! He is relentless about it too. I shoo him away and he'll go up to my shoulder then walk down to my other hand..repeat repeat repeat! Drives me soo crazy I end up putting him back in his house. I call it him doing the "chaa chaa" on my hand and its a big no-no!

Clark rubs up and down on the vertical position of my hand when I'm...well (you asked for info) peeing... and my hand is against the wall....I'm not sure if it's attention getting or sexual...I'd easily concede it's sexual.....but it's only for about a minute so I just talk to him and ask "what are you doing" and really just kind of use it to "bond back" without the possibly sexual overtones he'd like.

On my shoulder he never does this, so thats why I'm undecided 100%. Some part of my interaction with him for in the wider scope makes me think it's something he figured out gets attention....so I dunno. But I don't think it's harmful, nor do I feel I need to stop the behavior...it's not even rhythmic, it's more of a random....touching you with my side butt or hip kind of thing....I'd maybe consider it more a dominance move....but I have no idea what the crap goes on in his head other than the things he can obviously confer to me like I want juice, I want strawberry, I wanna play fight, I wanna kissy stuff. :gcc:

I think he's sick of you putting your hand on the wall and leaving dirt marks and chipping the paint off. I know I'm sick of my husband doing it.
