Hey guys!!!
So, I work with a wildlife rehabilitation group (some of you may remember from my intro post a while back)-- anyway, from time to time, we get calls to adopt exotics as well, since people know we can place them into good homes and have the knowledge between us all to care for them.
Well, an elderly woman has a modest collection of about 8 birds, but she is slowly developing dementia and is starting to let go of them to new homes within our group.
I am going to adopt the Sun Conure! :) Currently, I do have my little Green Cheek and I've adapted super well to him. I assume a Sun Conure will be quite similar, but I'd love to hear first hand what y'all have to say.
I feed my GCC Roudybush and give him a pinch of the Sunburst Conure mix a couple times a week and he's done great on it so far. I'd love to (hopefully) transition this bird (depending on if he's on awful food or not, haven't found that out yet.)

EDIT:

Looking again, I think it's a Jenday Conure. Also, this is not my photo. I don't have him yet. :)

Yes, it looks like you've got yourself a Jenday based on the coloring of the wings and belly. They stay more orange/red on the belly while wearing a yellow cap.

I had a Jenday conure when I was 13, got to finish hand-feeding and weaning him. He was my bestest friend ever! Conures like the Jenday and Sun can and will be VERY vocal so expect some screeching/screaming. They do tend to bond to one favorite person with tendencies to be aggressive to anyone other than their favorite so be sure to socialize this little one well and have people over to meet him/her in time when he adjusts.

Yep, agree with itsjbean. Jenday conure! Such a little cutie!

Probably good for you, since they aren’t as known for high pitched screams quite like sun conures are. Suns are great but the sun scream is not for everybody.

If you’re green cheek is happy and healthy, then don’t stress over the new addition. Largely they have the same suite of behaviors. Being an a ratings conure, perhaps a little extra in personality and vocalizations, but not appreciably so.

Enjoy your new addition!

Yep, it's a Jenday!

The first thing you need to do is remove the "Snuggle Hut" and toss it, as not only will it cause chronic hormonal behavior, they are unfortunately death-traps, specifically to Conures. They pick at and ingest the material they are made of, and either die suddenly of a GI or Crop obstruction, or a string comes loose and they literally "hang" themselves by their necks or their legs and either choke or bleed to death...Has happened to literally thousands and thousands of pet birds, from Budgies to Amazons, but it happens so often with Conures that the company that makes them (still makes them sadly) has put "Not Intended For Use With Conures!" on the front of the packaging!!! That's how many Conures have died from them one way or another, due to their love to cuddle inside of small, dark places and pick at things...So please, remove that first thing and do not replace it!!!!

I bred Suns and Jendays (as well as Green Cheeks) for a lot of years, and they are very similar, the biggest differences that I noticed being that they are much more vocal, as Itzjbean already mentioned, and they tend to like being handled more, although that's dependent on the Green Cheek (my Bowie loves being handled, so it's an individual bird thing)...Most Conure species are very similar, they are usually the "velcro birds" that love to cuddled, bond closely with one person, want to be with you all the time, eat everything, etc...But the Suns and Jendays are typically very, very loud!!!

Oh yes, this is not my photo, this is how he's set up right now. I will be rearranging and changing once I pick him up. :)

That was the first thing I was gonna say, toss the cuddle hut. It already looks worn and chewed up and isn't even hanging right.

Looks like you'll be saving this jenday!

@EllenD They should replace "Not intended for use with conures" with "Do NOT use with conures, significant risk of death!" But at least they are doing something.
