My recliner used to be the ONE place I could sit and have BOTH my shoulders to myself. After my foot/back injuries this summer/fall, Skittles wasn't getting enough of his "shoulder time" so he improvised and I got stuck being his shoulder slave again...lol. I let him have as much shoulder time as he wants because its one of the few places he will hang out and NOT cause trobule. It's never been a problem and is actually very convenient when I need to focus on things. Knowing exactly where he is (on my shoulder) means I don't have to keep an eye out everywhere else and can enjoy my programs or focus on what I am doing at the moment.

You lost me when you said "Step By Step" and then I realized I had the TV on, it was actually "Family Matters" playing, Skittles wants to learn the Urkel snort.

@Sunnyclover Ah, the joyous memories of "TGIF", lol.

@Aratingettar Exactly, how not to love our suns....let me count the ways....um...one...no wait,...one, no thats not right....lets see, okay,...one, no thats not right either. lol

Skittles has gotten away with destroying or chewing up many a valuable thing. Things that if a spouse or rooommate had destroyed they'd be either in divorce court or looking for a new place to live. lol.

Not sure who looks happier/more content with this arrangement- Skittles or his daddy:D What a beauty Skittles is though! Is he very loud? They had a sun at the bird store yesterday and boy was it LOUD for its size.

That's a good point. I love it when he snuggles. He likes to "press" himself against my neck when he's on my shoulder and if I tilt my head in the opposite direction, he'll push himself closer to touch my neck again. lol. I'd have to say its probably a tie. lol

It's funny though, he became even MORE cuddly AFTER I got rid of his cuddle hut. lol

Suns are by nature LOUD birds, there is no getting around that. But the loudness is also dependent on pitch. Their 'alarm' calls are the loudest and often only tolerable for a VERY short time even among the most noise-tolerable parronts. Their 'flock calls' are loud but tolerable. Their normal everyday calls are tolerable to some and intolerable to others. A lot of it depends on how much of it goes on. However, there is a difference between loudness and noisiness. All suns are loud but not all suns are noisy.

Skittles is actually VERY quiet. He wasn't always, he used to be impossible to so noisy it was intolerable. I used timeouts and positive reinforcement to curb that and it worked wonders. I also made adjustments to my daily routine to accommodate his needs as well as integrate him into my daily activities. I have found that it don't take much to please him. He just wants to be near me. If I let him be near me, he'll pretty much let me do whatever I need to do. It's a great system we have. Now, he can go hours without making a "loud" noise. But its often a matter of a few loud peeps every so often, but manageable. He does NOT screech in my ear and never has, so thats also a plus.

But a LOT of people underestimate the voice. They are just as loud as the larger parrots and in some cases even louder. I believe its because of their plumage, in part. They are by nature a VERY colorful bird and that no doubt makes them easy prey. Especially given their smaller size (compared to other birds with similar loudness). Which is probably why they nest and sleep in dark cavities in the wild as well as why they are so social and found in such large flocks. It's likely for protection.

In some way, I feel like when I'd switch Skittles with Cytrynka you wouldn't notice.
She's exactly as you describe Skittles. Cuddly, needy for attention. Most of the time she's quiet, only calls when she feels "abandoned". All the time she wants to be with me, and - as you name it - presses against my neck. Sometimes she lifts her wing while doing that, which is very pleasant due to her body heat as she warms my neck :D

Funny about the neck thing, I actually like that part of Skittles doing that too. When he "presses" against my neck, I can feel the warmth. He also loves to hang out inside my shirt and parks himself right where my heart is, my friend told me its likely because he likes the heartbeat and animals, like babies, find it comforting.

I think that the more attention you give a sun, the more cuddly and quiet he/she is likely to be. They just want to be with you. They are also a LOT smarter than a lot of people give them credit for. So often, people are taken aback by the plumage (and the loudness), even I was guilty of it. Even I have underestimated his intelligence. It actually boggles my mind just how smart he is, he's outsmarted me on numerous occasions, though in my defense, thats not hard to do. lol.
