Hey everyone!
A while back I posted about taking in a new bird from a woman who had to part with her flock to move into assisted living. I currently have my little Green Cheek Conure, Pizza Roll.
Yesterday, we finally met her birds and picked him up.
He was probably in the best looking condition, along with a Blue Crowned Conure who was his neighbor in the next cage over. Anyway, these birds haven't been handled in some time. She couldn't remember his name, she thinks it was Woody. (She has dementia so this is understandable, it pained her greatly to not remember and to have to part with these birds.)
She said she thinks he is between 12-15 years old. He's in need of a nail trim and perhaps a bit off the beak, but otherwise he seems all right. Nice and alert. Very shy but he will happily come to my shoulder with a little coaxing. No touching yet.
My only worry is he has a frequent dry cough. I scheduled him for an appointment on Wednesday. They were in a smaller size room all around one another with quite filthy cages (she couldn't handle the task to keep up) so I am assuming it may be lingering effects of a dusty environment, and hope he clears up. But to be safe I thought I'd take him. He's banded too, which is cool. I haven't looked to see what it reads (to see if its dated) because he's not fond of touching, but I am interested to see. Just wanted to introduce him. It's my hope that he and Pizza will eventually become friends (even though they are not amused at each other currently) so they have grooming buddies. I chose him specifically because he was the closest in size and also a conure, figured if any of those birds would be a match, it'd be him.
