So.....clark now has a brother/sister. I was picking out some xmas presents for him yesterday and ended up coming across a conure that picked me.

I've had him about......30 minutes now out of the box.

Things are going well, clark is slowly warming up after having me to himself for three years or so.

video two:

While I was uploading this I found out the new guy is a little scrapper! I guess clarks not the one i need to be worried about. I still have them on my shoulders, but I had to break up one fight that the little guy/girl kind of started and was being the rough one.

Ok so first advice being asked...the little new guy/girl is definately not a biter or aggresive, but if they end up on the same shoulder....(ill go with he for now) he instigates the fight. Clark was the one I was worried about but he's all chill. So far I've caught it each time and had my hand between them before any serious beaking could be done. Anyway to break the habit or is this just "Justin you've had the bird for an hour and 4 minutes...relax he'll calm down too..."?

Not to be critical, but you should do a 30-day quarantine in a different room from Clark, especially if he came from a pet shop....

EllenD of course your right but I'd be carrying any germs from one to the other anyways....besides...It's christmas. So far getting better reaction holding new guy on the hand and clark on the shoulder...they tend to look more interested and less "macho".

I wasn't trying to be critical or anything, I know what it's like when you bring a new family member home...I only worry about pet shops. The problem is that you walking back and forth from one to the other has nothing to do with them having direct contact with each other when it comes to the really nasty Avian Viral Diseases, you don't "carry" a lot of the really bad ones that we think about with new, young birds, they go straight from bird-to-bird, such as PBFD...That's why I always do the quarantine, specifically because of that one, ABV, PDD, Polyoma, etc. The big ones that the little guys get from their breeders/parents/aviary birds...

Congratulations! I have to yeah quarantine is a good idea.. but I understand. You need to be reassuring Clark that you love him, and for now he needs to know you love him best lol that helps. I hope they become best buddies. I'm definitely a person that thinks more the merrier. Try and stop fights before they start, at first they are just nervous, but it can lead them to think other birds are bad. Lots of treats , I would throw a bunch if seeds on the bed or table and let them eat together.

Yoda, Green Cheek Conure - Trigger, Congo African Grey
Congratulations! Looks like we've got a few folks on the forums who have a new fid to introduce to the family. I hope we can all learn from each other as we compare notes.

So far we're having similar experiences with Yoda and Trigger. Sometimes they ignore each other and just play with their own things. Other times Trigger wants to play with Yoda and Yoda gets scared. Other times Yoda tried to claim whatever Trigger is on or interested in and the Trigger is scared. We have to watch them very closely at all times, naturally. I'm hoping they chill out over time.

Good luck with yours!

Still working on the name, clark is for clark kent...I was thinking something else from DC right now general ZOD seems apt but until I can figure out the sex i dunno.

if a girl kara (supergirl)
lois
general zod
Jimmy (olsen)
Flash
Arrow
hawkman

etc.etc.

Right now the little one was tired so I put him upstairs in the cage while I spend time bonding with clark.

Clark doesn't need a cage he has lots of places he likes to sleep like inside drawers so I'm not worried about keeping them separated till they get along. I just hope the little guy relaxes a bit. Clark has been real chill about it, so I'm not to worried.

Congrats, he’s pretty darn cute!

Most of mine cannot share a shoulder - Baby and Tango can, but they also share a cage. The others....NOPE....all good on different shoulders but they seem to have a 6” barrier that triggers a scuffle. What I’ve done with each new addition is keep them at a distance that they can watch/ignore each other and get used to the presence without feeling like they need to protect anything (staying away from cages and personal spaces). I also have been careful to give make sure that my current birds get out of cage first, get treats first, etc to prevent jealousy of the newcomer. Seems to have worked for the most part. Some will never be friends, but they are all okay out together as long as they stay out of each others’ personal space :). Just take it slow and don’t force interaction...they’ll be fine. Can’t wait to hear what you name him!

Kara seems a nice, unique name for a fid. ZOD sound cool, too :)

Nice addition to your flock. Hopefully you all will get well together!

things are getting better......

Clark has done a few dominance moves where he puts his foot on the new guy now that they accept each other, but I think everything will work out.

So the new little guy is definitely a troublemaker, I just had to put 6 keys back on my keyboard and I had to chase him around to get one of the keys....the delete key isn't snapping back on right...... Ended up putting a paper towel over the keyboard.

But they are being sweeter with one another.

Ha ha, just be glad he's only a gcc! If I let Bo or Gus anywhere near my keyboard, I doubt there would be identifiable keys left to put back on.

It's good that they are being sweeter with each other though. It really does make it easier when they get along outside of the cage. Just don't let your guard down, especially as they both get older.
