Anyone out there have harness trained conures? What type of harness are you using? I have been working with my girl mango with one, so far I am working on getting her to put her head through the harness willingly. I'd love to see pictures of yours with harnesses or suits on!

Here’s my boy Leo chilling with his Aviator harness before it got cold outside. He h a t e s his flight suit, though, I get yelled at if I even show it for .5 seconds.

Gee! I'm surprised that more people haven't responded to this post. I am equally curious. I have a five month old Golden Conure and I would like to harness train him as well. Hope someone has some information. I used to have Macaws (hyacinth and Green Wing)who were free flighted but never used a harness. Conures are much smaller and have quite a good wingspand for their size. Right now my Muffin is clipped because he came that way to me from the breeder but once his flight feathers come in I want him to learn to fly but I would like to harness him outside. Let's hope someone with experience answers your post. I'll be watching.

A crossover Quaker Scuti (F), A Sun conure named AC, A Cinnamon Green Cheek conure Kent, and 6 budgies, Scuti Jr. (f), yellow (m), clark Jr. (m), Dot (f), Zebra(f), Machine (m).
I bought two types, the aviator was easier to get on but Clark was constant fidgeting with it and the one that comes with the diaper pads I couldn't manage.

If your going to use a harness start as young as possible....thats the best advice I can give. Before the bird decides hey screw these training wheels. Conures can be quite stubborn.

Cairo the Ekkie!
oh hey-o! I must have been sleeping when this post went up.

We have the Aviator harness, and Cairo LOVES it! He actually let the harness go on him before he let us casually touch him.

You can poke through his instagram account for more, but let me upload to imgur for easier access: https://imgur.com/a/LYezfQk

Here's also him flying with it: https://www.instagram.com/p/BsAtNsqFOxQ/

Feel free to ask questions - am a huge advocate for harnesses, especially when compared to leg chains!

...
Edit: Whoops! Didn't realise this was in the conure side (big, overstepping ekkie here). But still feel free to ask questions :p

My only suggestion is that you try to train your birdy when its young. The longer you wait the harder it is. Lots of patience. I think the aviator is the best harness, but everyone is different. And follow the instructional video. Good luck

I am in the process of Aviator harness training Kermit, so I’m eager to see responses from people who have successfully harness trained their conure or other parrot. Right now (after about a week or two of training, not very long) Kermit has progressed to the point where he’ll stick his head through one of the wing loops and stay there for several seconds with the treats in front of him. Next I will gradually decrease the size of the loop until he’s comfortable putting his head through the narrow collar. Harness training takes a lot of patience, but it’s so worth it in the end!
