Nutriberries for one conure

Hi everyone! I'm getting ready for my pineapple green cheek and I was wondering if anyone has any idea how long nutriberries last? It would be less expensive to purchase the 4lb tub, however, they will only be a treat-even if a daily treat. Is one tub too much for a single bird? I'm just wondering if they would go bad before she would finish them off.

I would just get a small container to begin with. You don't even know if your bird will like them or not. When I used to have cockatiels, they only ate certain parts of the Nutriberries and didn't care for the rest.

Keep them in the freezer! FYI, my JoJo won’t touch them!

My 4 conures do like Nutriberries, but I still buy the small tubs. Mine get one each a couple of times per week and the tub lasts forever. I usually put some of mine out in an airtight container and the rest live in the freezer until I need them. For a single conure - I agree with Remi....small tub first, there’s no cost savings if they don’t like them and you bought the mother lode size .

My GCC gets Nutriberries every other day. Don't know how many but they are always available as are pellets and fresh water twice a day. Maybe that's why she doesn't want to leave her cage. She's not overweight and is always active. Cage door is always open except at night when its covered. She does come out in the mornings to say hello. I buy them by the bag.

I would get a small tub first to see if your conure even likes them. He/she may like another treat better.

Are you talking about the "Pelletberries", or what they call the "Premium Diet" in the tubs? Because there is a big difference between the Pelletberries and the Nutriberries, which are more of a treat...If you are talking about the actual Pelletberries that are meant to be a daily staple-diet just like any other pellet or seed-mix, I'd also go with the small tub, but honestly I'd first call the breeder/store that you're getting your Green Cheek from and ask them exactly what staple-food they weaned him/her onto, because if you buy something different than what the bird is being weaned-onto then he/she won't eat it, and you'll have to also buy whatever the bird was weaned onto and slowly do a proper transition over-time.

So unless you know for certain that the breeder is weaning the baby onto the Pelletberries, I wouldn't buy a large container, or any container for that matter, because what they are being weaned-onto may be better than the Pelletberries in the first place...Either way you'll still have to also buy whatever staple-food the bird is being weaned onto in order to transition him/her over to whatever you want them to eat as their staple diet, because they won't just start eating something else...

I've had mixed success with Nutriberries as treats. Some love them, others hurl them away.

Best to purchase a small package, though as Flboy suggests, the freezer is your friend for freshness!

I get the tub for Amy. He will get three or four in his nummy bowl a couple time a week. His "Uncle David" keeps a couple on the coffee table when he trys to bribe Amy to get head skritches lol. I used to get the small container and cockatiel size for Beebs but stopped because he prefers millet as a treat.
The 4lb tub will last a couple months for Amy.

Just go to your CAV and ask for samples.
If they sell food there (or the petshop), they will have some.

Mine love the purple and green coded nutriberries, hate the yellow ones...
(the red ones are so-so ...)


Do not buy a tub, just the small bags to begin with.

Thank you everyone! It's been a really long time since I have had a bird. She is being weaned onto roudybush crumbles, veggies and some fruit and nutriberries for treats. I will order the bag to see how it goes. I just prefer to do things mail order so I try to order in bulk when possible. I'd like to convert her to Harrison's but we'll take it slow and see how she likes it.

The Roudybush she is being weaned onto is an awesome staple-diet for her, it's every bit as good as Harrison's for her, so if that's what she is coming to you eating as her daily staple diet, then honestly I'd keep her on it...You'll at least need to order some to feed her while you gradually transition her onto some other daily staple diet, like Harrison's. Both are great choices that are low in fat, high in protein, and high in overall-nutrition for her.

As long as you know the Nutriberries are only treats and not the food you feed her each day, and she's getting them during her weaning as her treats, then I'd just order them too and freeze them (it's usually cheaper if you buy them in-bulk or in the larger tubs in the case of the Nutriberries). So you know that she likes them as treats already, so it's probably better to buy them in the large tub and freeze them...But be sure to find out what variety of them she is being given as her treats because there are a bunch of different flavors, and they love some of them and refuse to touch others, same thing with the Nutriberry "Avi-Cake" treats, my guys love some of the flavors and absolutely hate others and won't go near them...Spoiled they are...

It's pretty awesome your breeder is weaning their babies onto Roudybush as their daily staple diet, it's a great choice and rare to find a breeder who is willing to spend the money to wean them onto either Roudybush or Harrisons. So that's a good thing for sure...

Salty gets 1 or 2 as a part of his breakfast meal. Usually 1. He eats mst of them but some times he will leave bits of certain flavors. I find they can dry out too much if I get the tub, so we only get the resealable bags and keep several different flavors on hand.

Actually Wrench makes a very good point that I had forgotten to mention, and that's that both the Nutriberries and their "Avi-Cakes" treats dry-out and harden into little round or square shaped bricks of seeds, pellets, veggies, and fruit, lol...And I'm talking like in one 24-hour period after first buying them and opening up the tub or the package. So good-call by Wrench...

I don't buy the large tubs of the Nutriberries myself because I don't feed them to my guys on a regular basis as treats, I usually go to the pet store and buy their pellets/seed-mix and then look to see what treats are new or that we haven't tried-out, and I'll buy something new...And there are so many different varieties of Nutriberries and Avi-Cakes treats that you could try a new one each month for a good few years. But just a regular package of Avi-Cakes or one of the small bags of Nutriberries does become extremely dry and hard pretty quickly...I don't how they freeze and thaw-out, and whether they're okay after you thaw them, because I have 4 larger parrots, a Dove, and 8 Budgies, so any treats are gone before I even get them home...No need for freezing the treats, that's for sure...
