Training continues...i'm stuck

I've had my GCC, Yoshi for just over a month now and he's made major progress since i first got him - initially he was afraid of hands but now he takes food from my palm with no hesitation. Next step in his training is for him to actually go onto my hand, i've started putting his treats further up my arm so that he has to step on my hand in order to reach opposed to leaning over but no luck, he ends up preening my hand and is seemingly scared of stepping on.

Should i simply continue doing what I'm doing and wait or is there something else I'm supposed to be doing?

Any tips will be helpful!

Thanks :)

When I was little and got my first bird, what I did was use a perch to get him used to stepping up with the command ā€œstep upā€ and a millet treat presented to him. I never put it in my palm, but simply held it up to him. I think getting him used to your hand was great! Might make training easier.

Spend awhile doing the repetitive step up onto the perch until he does it without thinking. Then slowly transition to your finger. Always hide your thumb, and only use a finger or two of you need it. Itā€™s way less imposing than a hand. Remember to go at his pace. So if he doesnā€™t want to try, thatā€™s okay. Continue with the perch until you feel like seeing if heā€™s ready to try again. ļæ½ļæ½

Good luck!!!

My little budgie I had for 10 years. He would accompany me on dog walks and was the sweetest little bird. It took a while but he got used to me and we were best friends. Patience is key. Never force him to do anything heā€™s not comfortable with.

Find his favorite treat only given in very special occasions, and keep doing what you are doing. In mango's case, its peanut butter. I have yet to find something that she won't do for a teeny dab (and I mean teeny) of peanut butter.

Maybe try holding a perch for him to step up? Stepping up on your hand usually comes after they are comfortable stepping up on a perch.
