I do live by myself and my 1 year old conure seems to be happy. So I do not see any problems. It is unavoidable that I will have to leave her alone but I try to minimize it to 4 hours at most. I do work at home and figure that there are bird owners who leave their bird alone for 8 hours.

I noticed my bird seems happier when i have music on. I was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to leave music on for her when I have to leave her alone? I cannot think of a downside but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here.

I live alone too and if I leave Syd I tell him where I am going and when I 'll be back. He listens carefully, has a treat and I will either leave the tv or radio on. He is always glad to see me when I return and seems happy enough. I have waited outside at times to listen if he is calling but he seems ok.

He recognises street clothes as opposed to home lounging kit too. How long? Usually a couple of hours but a couple of times all day.

I always leave the TV on for my bird and my two dogs. I figure they like the noise and I am sure the bird watches it too.

I work out of the home, so I do leave music on for my flock all day. All of mine like music, except my cockatiel (who ignores it).

I also leave music on for my Pineapple. He doesn't seem to mind it. BUT, when I put the radio on, he knows that I am leaving and starts calling to me. But that only lasts for about a minute and then he settles down.

I put on cartoons when I head out. A lot of them have songs and she seems to like listening to them while playing with her toys.

Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
I turn on a classical music radio station when I leave. I can trust that nothing upsetting to the budgies will play, and, I don't actually enjoy classical music myself. So when I turn on Classical Radio, the Budgies & the Conure know I'm leaving For The Day.

(If I'm only gonna be out a few hours, I turn on a youtube-aquarium-with-music video instead.)

My Sunny Conure will often squawk or yell angrily when I turn on the classical. But I figure this is good. It tells me she understands! So, although she might wish I was home instead of away at work --(well, so do I!!)-- still, she's not sitting there broken-heartedly expecting me to return any moment.

I leave either the tv or the radio on for Parker when we leave for work for the day. He either enjoys it or could care less...can’t really tell. But he loves sitting on the piano while I play so there’s probably some semblance of enjoyment.

So do I. I put on cartoons, Looney Tunes, Disney movies & The Little Rascals ...lol :D
I was going to put on The Three Stooges one day, than thought better of it. I was afraid Levi would pick up some offensively impolite sayings.

Music is an exceptional idea. My Skittles is 'free-flighted' and I too try to limit the amount of time I leave him alone because of that. I usually leave him for 2hrs on my regular errand trips with the occasional 3hr trip and a rare 4hr trip and he's just fine. But I put the music on every time I have those errand trips. I've never had a problem with him, in fact he will go into his cage on command. Sometimes even without command. I wear my jammies around the house whenever I am home. Sometimes when I'm about to get ready to go out, he will either climb inside my shirt (if hes not already there) to try and 'dissuade' me from going out or, he'll fly over to his cage and go in without any prompt. Most of the time though, I direct him (I point to the cage, snap my finger and say "go" and he obliges).

I knew of someone who had a parrot and they were trying to get it to learn to speak another language, so they would play one of those "learn French in 30 days or less" tapes while they were out running errands etc, but the tape they had was second hand and half way through it broke into disco music. They didn't find out until the parrot started saying "parlez vous francais, oui, oui, thats the way, uh huh, uh huh I like it".

Thats a joke btw.

I leave on music, but I try to pick something I know my bird likes. They do have preferences so some music may stress them out.
Consider the volume level and all of that when you do (you don't want to blast it).
