I've not yet told my 'bird story' but I had to share this aspect.

I had a parakeet named Sammy that I got in 1989 and had him for 11 years. He was my very best friend. I had a horrible childhood and he was one of the few bright spots. School was a nightmare for me and too often I came home crying and would go into my room and Sammy would be there. He'd tilt his head down as if to say "its okay daddy, Sammys here". That was such a comfort. I'd laugh and dry my tears. I can still picture that image in my head even after all these years.

Well, the other night, after Skittles had gone to bed, I was cutting onions for a dish I was making and I cut my thumb. The following day, I was at the PC standing desk and it started to bleed again. Skittles was on my shoulder (as he often is when I'm at my PC). He climbed down my shoulder and arm and tilted his head JUST LIKE SAMMY USED TO DO! But, in true Skittles fashion, he had to go dramatic and he proceeded to make his "kissy noises". I swear, if birds could talk, he was saying "Skitty kiss boo-boo and make daddy all better?". It was the WAY he looked at me when he made those noises. It totally made my day.

Thank you so much for sharing this, it brought tears to my eyes. Wow.
I'm so glad that Skittles has taken up where Sammy left off in being there for you!

That's so beautiful. :) I know just how you feel. Yoda has always had this way of knowing when I needed some love and that's just when he gets super cuddly... and I'm not the only one he does this for.

Last month my mom's brother (she's my in-law, but she's closer to me than my own mom) passed away and she was feeling very down. Mom and Pop came over for dinner and while they were here, Yoda seemed glued to my Mom's shoulder, snuggling her neck everywhere she went. It was strange because he's never showed that kind of affection to her before or since. Afterwards, she told me that Yoda had really made her feel so much better. Somehow he just knew she needed the love. :)

Skittles always makes everything better.

Just a short while ago, he was in his day cage playing with his jungle ball and I started choking on some seeds I was eating and he rushed right over, lol.

I don't know why it always amazes me. Animals are incredible preceptors. When I was a kid, I had a scholastic reading club membership and I remember reading a story about a dog who's owner was diabetic. She collapsed and he ran out the door to the neighbors and started scratching until someone answered. That dog saved her life. He wasn't even a trained service dog either. It wouldn't have been so amazing had it been a service dog, but this dog was just following his instincts.

But its "rare" to find Skittles in an 'innocent' state. lol. j/k.

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Now THAT is an awesome picture!!

Yessiree I know birdies can sense that there is something up or going on,with their person.
When Smokey passed away a few years back, both Amy and I were super depressed, more me than Amy. It took a couple of weeks for Amy to get over her grief and come out of her house, but I was still in a bad state.
I was lying on the couch one day, still heart broken. Amy was out on her rooftop on his playpen. He looked at me and climbed down to the floor and waddled over to the couch and climbed up the couch and SNUGGLED under my chin while gently beaking my face and beard and mumbling soft Amazon things to me. Amazons just DONT DO THAT!! That made me cry even harder and gently hug him and kiss his head and back, which he seldom lets me do.

Last summer when I was having the worse time of my life, with my healt and loosing my house on top of it,I had a reaction from some meds I was taking and as I walked out of the computer room to go to the bathroom,I collapsed on the hallway floor. I was in sight for Amy in her house. I woke up about ten minutes later to the LOUDEST SCARRIEST Amazon screams I have ever heard! Amy had seen me collapse to the floor and he was doing his damndest to try and wake me up,and it worked!

You will NEVER convince me that birds don't feel or care about their loved ones!

Hey! NOBIRDY outdoes a sunny birdy!

Its funny, because my recliner was the ONE place I could sit or lay and Skittles would NOT insist on being near me. He'd settle for sitting on my knee or the armrest. But after I injured my ankle badly last summer, he wouldn't leave my side and insisted on being as close to me as he could when I was in my recliner.

It amazes me every day how in sync our bond is.
