Butter - male green cheek conure
Butter was finally taken the vet today! :gcc: And I was able to convince Dad to let him get a checkup. Fortunately, nothing too bad ended up being the case! :D His molt is just really irritating for him so I’m going to have to give him a prescribed medicine twice a day. Thank you all so much for help on my last thread! I was originally planning on only joining to get advice for my bird’s situation, but now I believe I will become an active member! Not too active though, considering I have a life outside of the internet that keeps me busy.

Thank you so much! Butter enjoyed his visit very much even if the beak trimming was not fun. :(

Some pics from the experience are attached!

So good to hear that your parents finally listened to you. Well done on being Butter's advocate....a sure sign of good parronting on your part.:)

A lot of members, some with many years of parronting, are not fans of beak trimming, unless there is a gross deformity involved. Over grown beaks are a sign that yur bird is not being offered enough chewing type toys and/or cuttlebone(s). I personally subscribe to this train of thought becasue beaks are riddled with nerve endings; they are not like fingernails or har or other hard tissue. Trimming them with things like a Dremel tool could easily hurt the birdy, and generate enough heat in the process to damage nerve endings. Psycologically your parrot might become afraid of the vet because of it. I sed to have it done many years ag, before the Internet, when there was a limited amount of information on the care of parrots. COnsider getting your conure more chewing toys.

Good for you convincing your Dad to help be a champion for your conures health. He deserves an "I love you, Dad" from Butter.
