Remi and Petey - a week after

So, we have had Petey, our new cinnamon green cheek, for about a week now. Things have been a bit hectic but we are slowly settling into a new routine with two birds. Petey is a five year old conure whom we adopted from a family that couldn't keep him. Remi is a four year old normal green cheek conure and we got him as a rehome from a pet store last year.
Anyway, the boys are still weary of each other. When they get closer to each other, they bicker. They each have their own flight cage, but they have shared some fruit in a neutral territory (kitchen counter). Hopefully, with time, they will learn to coexist peacefully. I will not keep them in the same cage though.
It has been double work, double mess, but double amount of love as well, lol.
They are both people oriented and love human attention though they are different in showing it. Remi loves beak rubs and snuggling, Petey loves preening my cheek and ear.
Anyway, hopefully the boys enjoy their life together in the years to come :51:

It's interesting to learn and see the differences in their personalities. Petey is a very good flier and knows exactly how to get where he wants to. Remi, ehm, not so much. Prefers to be taxied aroud, lol.
Remi loves chicken, tortilla chips, cheese. Petey is a bit more health conscious, lol. Remi is a snuggler and loves his beak rubs but Petey does not like to sit on shoulders.
It's fun!!

Second week in, now we know Petey is a female. Remi, obviously, a male.
They really don't care for each other. If they are too close, they will get into a beak fight, so we have to be careful. They don't mind being in the same room, just not too close to each other. I am a little sad that they bicker, I hoped for them to be friends, but it is what it is.
They both love being with their people, so I think they are jealous of each other. Usually, my son takes one and I take the other and so that way, they both get attention at the same time. Petey is more gentle than Remi, who tends to lash out more often. Just different personalities. But Remi had a traumatic past, so I cut him some slack right there.

Wish they had clicked too...darn it..
Penny and Ta-dah just tolerate each other, they used to freak out and fight, but now can both sit with me, as long as they are about four to six inches apart, I'm happy with that. Birds are such individuals! They are more like people than any other pet :)!

That's how Remi and Petey are - there has to be a six inch distance between them, lol. Ah well, at least I don't have to worry about them mating and having eggs, ain't gonna happen.

I am so glad you decided to give Petey another chance. If both are male, they will fight for you attention. You are doing very well keeping them apart for now until they learn how to be friends. Lol.

Yeah, I just couldn't give her to someone else; she had already been rehomed once by her original family.. It felt like I was giving up my kid or something , lol. Anyway, Petey is DNA confirmed female and Remi is DNA'd male, so that's that.
We are just going to have to work a little harder on them getting used to each other and sharing attention. She is a very smart bird though. Last night, she flew upstairs and found me in my room!
