SassyByrd (DYH Amazon) JoJo (GCC) Betty (GCC) DEARLY LOVED fids lost to “Teflon Disaster 12/17 RIP Pickles (GC),RIP Winston (Sun), RIP Lady PLEASE TAKE 5 MINUTES &TOSS OUT ALL YOUR TEFLON NOW!
Hello all...my name is Jen and I used to post to the conure forum all of the time. I had two suns and a gcc that were tragically lost to a Teflon disaster a couple of years ago. They were much loved and will always be missed! After some healing, we went to the same breeder house to adopt another GCC, and ended up coming home with "TWO" and an Amazon! So, we have JoJoByrd, BettyByrd and SassyByrd (the Amazon)!

All 3 were hand-fed babies and everything was going great and then hubby suffered a horrible hip fracture from radiation for cancer a few years ago. After 5 months in the hospital he finally had to undergo an "entire leg" amputation. The hospital (UCLA) was a few hours away so the fids were totally neglected, especially the little guys. So, although they aren’t really fearful of people, they are having to learn the basics all over again. Here are some pics of the little girls. The first is the two of them supervising me while I work. The other two are of them trying to sample the latest in my glass!

We are back in gear now and really getting to spend quality time with everyone. The two GCC are as different as night and day. JoJo (the turquoise) is over the top. She is full of it, the first to try anything, fearless, etc. Betty (I don't even know her "official" color) is like my other GCC was. She is shy, wants to spend quiet time with you, very sweet, etc. JoJo’s favorite pastime right now is with sitting on my forehead and leaning down to stare into my eyes or terrorize the SassyByrd! Thank goodness SassyByrd is a very good girl and for the most part just give JoJoByrd dirty looks. Betty just enjoys sitting quietly with me and is so very sweet.

The birds were clipped when we first got them. Their wings are grown out now and they are on the move! I work from home so they are out most days all days. We had a near tragedy two weeks ago when JoJo flew right out the front door! She wasn't trained to fly "to me" or "step up". Of course, I couldn't stop crying, thankfully I was able to climb a tree, lure her with a bowl full of sun flower seed kernels and snatch her with my other hand. Whew! She was in the neighbors tree and I was bit like crazy all the way home. My hands had deep bites and bruising for 2 weeks! Nevertheless, I promised them that would never happen again, and just in case we are working like crazy and teaching "come" and "step up". They will now fly to me from anywhere and we are still working on step up. The come command has gone a little to well as you can see from this video:

Anyhow, it is “nice” meeting you all, I’ll continue to peruse the posts and chime in every now and then. Have fun with your babies!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Hi David, thought I might run into you here! The Amazon form is so quiet compared to the conure forum! I thought I’d spread my wings a little!
