So, offer him different kinds. Maybe start with a soft perch. Does he have any redness or injury to his feet?

What does he have in terms of wooden chew toys? I wonder if he's trying to use his perch as a chew toy instead.

It’s funny how they suddenly decide something needs to go 
. Bindi does the same thing with toys. She throws them to the bottom of the cage and I know it’s time to switch for something different.

Sometimes I find humans confound logic too.
This humanlike quality is one reason I love parrots much more than dogs, which I find too much into pleasing their humans.
IMO it shows the ability to think for oneself and be an individual.
