Noise level

Any tips for quieting down a sun conure? I know that suns are loud, and they are going to make noise. I dont want to keep to her quiet all the time, but sometimes she just screams for no reason. Like when we get home, she screams to be let out, and I usually make her stay in there until she is quiet. I just want to know what the appropriate reaction is to screaming. I usually try to ignore it, which can be difficult. If she is out of her cage and screaming, I won't let her sit on my shoulder. If there is something she needs, I will address her issue, but she also just screams for attention, or because she is mad because a roommate left the house. I need her to learn that screaming is not an appropriate reaction to not getting exactly what she wants.

All I can say is to ignore any screaming, for whatever reason it is. Wait for her to have a 1+ minute break from screaming and then address her problem if there is one.
When she is quiet or making a noise that is better than screaming and what you would prefer, reward. It is so important to do training like this because you are teaching that bird that quieter or no noises at all will get your attention, not screaming their lungs out. This method definitely improved my macaw from screaming over time. It can take a while for this to improve but this is long term than covering or spraying your bird.
Really hope this helps you. :)

Pico, gender unknown, is a hand-fed Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure, born 2015.
A few times a day I'll use these, and I have a relatively-quiet Green Cheek Conure.

If I had a sun I'd likely give some of these to my closest neighbors.

So, so very important with any training, wheter for tricks or behaviuor is to be consistent. Parrot behaviour changes very very slowly, most times. And if you aren't consistent in your method, moves or approach, it will not give the desired result, and only confuses or even annoys the parrot. Good luck!

Great advice.

Or, if you are dealing with a Genghis (Patagonian) Konure, buy a house with a big lot, give the bird his own room, bully friends and relatives into tolerating the noise, and practice transcendental meditation.

But seriously, good for you, for reaching out!

Okay. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing. She is my first bird. I know you arent really supposed to yell at birds or punish them. Just want to be practicing more productive teaching. She is smart, I'm sure someday we will get there.

I haven't met a quiet bird yet, lol. Sorry, I have no useful advice, just wanted to give you some encouragement. You are probably doing everything right, but birds are loud and they will scream when they want to.
My two are green cheeks and they are a little less noisy than let's say a sun conure, but even so, when they want something or when I get the vacuum cleaner out, they scream.
We have our own house, so no worries about the neighbors like in an apartment.

Yeah same here we live in a house. I dont expect a quiet bird, just want to be making the right steps to not encourage the screaming bouts.
