Sick conure???

So my bird Valentine has been this way for a while now, he hasnt really gotten better but he also hasnt gotten worse. He came to me all scraggly and had a lot of stress bars in his feathers but since May (purchase date) he has moulted and his feathers have gotten a lot less black and a lot prettier although he still has these random bald patches and spaces between his feathers. Some spots are completely bald while others have patchy pin feathers or fluffy bits. They are mostly around his neck, head and under his wings so he gets quite itchy and scratches a lot. There are never any sores but the skin does look a little red and dry in those areas.
He is a very lovely bird, very happy and incredibly spoilt. His cage isnt the biggest but he spends majority of his time on his huge playground with an abundance of toys and he loves to fly around all over the place (hes not clipped) and sings a lot. He eats a mixture of pellets, fruit and veg, and seeds. He bathes himself a few times a week and is very social. He sleeps 10-12 hours each night in a covered cage.
Ive tried moulting liquid in his water, mite spray (although i couldn’t get that under his wings), more fruit and veg, i put coconut oil on his dry skin and spray it with tea when i have time and that seems to relieve the itchiness sometimes but ive only done that for a few days so i dont know how itll work in the long run. Ive also tried parasite droplets. He has a very healthy beak and very healthy feet, he doesnt seem depressed or anything, there are no vets that live near us so any recommendations on here would be amazing.
The one time i took him to a regular vet they misdiagnosed him with beak and feather disease and told me he was going to die but the test came back negative and that was months ago.

Firs things first -- he needs to see a BIRD vet. A certified avian vet to be exact. Where are you located? It's super important to find a vet that deals specifically with parrots -- they are the experts and will know EXACTLY what is going on with your conure's baldness and skin issues.

They will be able to give you the very best treatment possible and can even run blood tests to make sure its nothing internal. Highly suggest you leet us know your location so we can help you find a vet that can really get to the bottom of your conure's health issues. Nothing we can say on the internet is going to be the answer you are looking for so even if you have to drive several hours to get him to be seen by a CAV (certified avian vet) it will be so worth it to get your conure's issues resolved.

I would say in the short term do please stop using anti mite or parasite measures! You are treating blind and could very easily accidentally hurt the little one with such harsh chemicals. Even the products specifically for birds are still pesticides!



I agree with above about seeing a vet. Some members here may be able to help you find a good one near to you if you let us know where roughly in this big wide world of ours you are.

Most of us swear by our avian vets in the event of health concerns.

Pictures would help. Could he be plucking,? Those sound like pluck areas.
You don't hear a lot about itchy birds..
To small a cage can play a big roll in issues, as also cage placement ...
Stop adding anything to the water. Definitely get an avain vet exam. You can ad probiotics to the food. Or feed a half teaspoon live culture yogurt once a week.
