I have had Jazz now for 3 months and it couldnā€™t be going better. Jazz is an awesome Jenday.
I do not need another bird. I shouldnā€™t get another bird. But I am itching for another bird.
So my question: Jazz often chooses to hang out at the Budgies cage. So what do you think? Would she like a friend? Would another conure fit best?
My choices are a 17 year old orphaned Sun or an older Blue Crown. Those are at a rescue not close to where I live and they are taking so long to approve me and I canā€™t even talk to them until I am approved so I know nothing about the birds or even the cost of adoption. Then a really nice tame IRN close to where I live who I have visited twice is being rehomed.
Thoughts?

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Classic symptoms of MBS! (Multiple Bird Syndrome)

Jazz may desire a "friend" or is merely social. Pairing a bird with another is fraught with uncertainty. Might be love, bitter hatred, or something in between. Another issue is another bird might affect your continued bonding with Jazz.

No correct or improper answer, a matter of making the best decision after deep thought!

Thank you for your reply. And yes you are so right. I am having such a harmonious relationship with Jazz and finding time to incorporate a second bird into that routine could be problematic.

Off subject but I do wonder if most Jenday and Sun Conures are as easy going and sweet as Jazz.

Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
My Sun is a happy friendly girl. And a petstore near me currently has a beautiful Jenday with a very pleasant disposition as well. (No, I can't buy him. So Im just praying someone does who will give him a great home.) But I'm starting to believe it's a standard trait for these birds.

Totally understand your dilemma. I went through something similar this summer with Remi. Got him a roommate, Petey. Even though initially things did not go so well, they are great company to each other now. They peacefully coexist and provide each other with entertainment when we are too busy.
I will say that the mess they make is double atrocious, lol!

Thank you fiddlejen and RemiBird for your replies. I flip flop on what I want to do. I am in the home stretch of being approved through a rescue. Problem is there is no rescue closer then a 4 hour drive from me. However there is an 18 year old sun conure whose older owner no longer can care for. It just seems kismet that I should adopt this bird. I am in my sixties and in good health so I think I will outlive the Sun. Sadly I may not outlive my current Jenday so maybe some day some nice senior women will give Jazz a good home.

Also remember that the same needs/checklists apply to a second bird as did to the first, given the above listed concerns, are you prepared/able to devote the required time and energy to this possible new bird, seperate from the others if it turns out that they don't get along? Or if they do take to each other like ducks to water are you prepared to give them space at the expense of your bond with your Jenday? Not sure that anyone but you can really answer these questions and I'm not trying to recommend one choice over the other, just a few things to consider, only one possible outcome includes you continuing as is with your current bird and the new one working itself into this routine, all others involve a significant level of change, possibly requiring a great deal of extra time commitment.

Others have pointed out relevant points, with caveats and good advice. I couldn't improve on that if I tried, so I'll just share what went through my quirky brain as I read your post.

No, I won't. I doubt you all are ready for that level of odd humor.

Wish you happiness with your choice, whichever the outcome. I do wonder how multiple bird parents find the time to keep everyone happy. My one is so dang needy.

Lol, I know what you mean! But they learn to share and wait, and if you have two of everything (two stand alone perches, two shoulders, two pieces of treats etc...) it's not so bad, lol.

As a MBS sufferer lol. It has mostly gone well. Except my GCC has removed toes from my budgie, terrible....:( Mostly attacks were the budgies free and landed on caged Ta-dah, I stopped that but recently had an attack that wasn't cage related...:(
There are a lot of positive things, the birds flock, they are more willing to try new foods and toys, they entertain eachother giving me a break once in a while. They all want head scritches at the same time and I only have two hands ! :)!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I decide not to get another bird but slowly the want slips back into my consciousness.
