Blaze - Roseifrons Conure
Pineapple - English Budgie
Hi Iā€™m new here and new to owning a Conure! Iā€™ve only ever owned budgies and cockatiels and it has been a long time since Iā€™ve owned any birds due to raising young kiddos that past few years. Last week we brought home an English budgie but we also fell in love with a Roseifrons Conure and ended up bringing him home today šŸ˜¬! He is so sweet and friendly. He was already greeting all the family and ready to explore within minutes of being home!

My question is: what can I expect with interaction between the budgie and conure. Should they stay separate at all costs or will they ever be able to share a play stand or something? Just curious to see what othersā€™ experiences have been.

Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
I got my Sun a couple months after my 2 Budgies. They occasionally visit inside or atop each others' cages. They haven't had any actual problems. However I do supervise when they are together.

During their first meetings you should observe them, this can be different. Laurasea knows how dangerous this can be. She has two budgies and a conure - one of her budgies have been attacked 3 times but not yet the second one. My budgies don't want to leave their cage so I can't really talk about their relationship with my conure

Welcome aboard Kestrel84 to you and yours!

Yes our fellow member Laurasea has had some unfortunate mishaps with her green cheek conure actually nipping several toes clean off one of her budgies so you will definitely need to supervise! I have no doubt some budgies and conures are perfectly safe but budgies can be like that pesky little brother who doesnā€™t know when to quit and if the conure loses itā€™s temper the results can be very serious indeed.

Other than that - welcome aboard! Itā€™s good that you care about your feather babies and are asking these sorts of questions :)

Welcome and congratulations with your new bird family. I too was new to conures two years ago and have fallen in love. They are outgoing, friendly and complicated.

Because of the difference in size I would only have your two together when supervised. My Jenday likes to visit with the little Budgies while they are in their cage but I donā€™t usually have them out together.

Yep my green cheeck liked my budgie. But didn't like my budgie on top of her cage. And it was terrible to go through for the budgie and me!!
Then she attacked my budgie when both were out of the cage and left my budgie bleeding. A budgie can't defend itself against a green cheeck conure.....
Please be careful.

I find green cheeks to be very moody. Like the others said, just be careful and supervise them even if they seem to get along.
