Good conure friends?

My gcc is named Leo, I rescued him about a year ago but he was abused as a baby. This has left him very frightened of hands. I have worked with him for a year and he is alot more trusting of me. I got to a very good stage with him to where he would stand on my finger when I picked him up off a perch however, I moved house and since it has been very difficult to do this outside his cage. He is very sweet and playful, he never bites. He is fully flighted as he has been all his life.
He loves other birds and often likes to talk to birds he hears outside. I would like another bird. I have space for a large cage, I love bigger birds and I want to get one in the future but not right now. I know their is no guarantee they will get along as all birds r different but I know certain species tend to have similar traits and I would like to know if anyone could help me find a type of parrot that would fit well with Leo.

If you want friend for Leo the best solution is the same species or another conure of genus Phyrura. Other parrot genera have other languages. There are types which you also can get without any fighting but they both will be "alone" because they aren't able to "talk" each other. They will just tolorate

My GCC and my Quaker are very bonded, but one is a female the GCC and the other is a male the quaker.
I do agree it's safer to get same species, bu Jen has suns and GCC not sure if they ar freinds tho??? Jen maybe you will weigh in?

My Quaker and Green cheeks on the other hand are like mortal enemies.
Green cheeks with Green cheeks is the best option, just in case one gets a bit randy with another sort of conure and hybrids are produced, and Hybrids are not good at all with the diminishing populations of pure, captive birds

I got Remi, my first GCC, what I thought would be a friend, another GCC.
In the beginning, they fought to the point that I thought I may have to rehome the second one. With time though, they have learned to co-exist. However, to this day, if they get too close to each other, Petey just flies off. I think Remi's presence is still not completely comfortable to her, but they do keep each other company from a distance. They do bathe at the same time, and eat their meals at the same time. So there you go, even with the same species you will not be able to tell how they are going to be.
I do get that desire to give your bird another feathery friend. I also do believe that Remi's mental health benefits from having Petey in a cage next to him during the day when we are at work.
I always think of it this way: imagine you live on a lonely island and you finally get a neighbor. You don't like him much, but he is still there, next to your little fence. Day by day, you peek through the fence to see how he is doing with his little yard, even though you don't want to talk to him. One day, he is gone, and you are all alone again. Would you like being alone again? Would you miss him?

I have 5 conures and a cockatiel. All of mine were adults when they came to me, so I won’t be able to share any experience about adding a young bird to the mix. I’m sure mine all benefit from having other birds to be around even if they don’t interact well up close together. Baby and Tango (Sun & GCC - both female) are the only two that I have that want to share a cage, everyone else needs their own space. My cockatiel prefers to pretend that there are no other birds in the house, and chooses not to actively interact with the others. I can say that birds that I thought would be social and docile with others ended up not liking each other. I think all birds can be pretty independent thinkers that way - you don’t get to pick their friends lol . My other sun conure (Bindi) can be out with any of the other birds, but will get beaky with any bird who gets too close to her. Both of my pineapple GCCs are feisty little dudes who don’t really like playing with others - but they chatter back and forth all day. After work I have the flock out in groups based on who gets along or can ignore each other best (and I have enough play/treat areas that they don’t have to be in each others’ faces if they don’t want to be).

I would recommend planning to cage and interact with birds separately, and consider it a bonus if they become close enough to share space.
