My son's 1yr old GCC has come a long way since he got her in January 2019. We let her wings grow back (they were clipped when we got her) several months ago and it really helped her confidence and trust in the family. She has now decided it's a good idea to fly into the kitchen and recently fly up onto the husband's elk mount. We have currently been getting her down and putting back in the cage and telling her no when she does this. I'm not sure what else to try to stop this behavior. We are pretty relaxed with other areas of the room and have no other issues to speak of yet but the husband has a hard NO with the mount. This has only been going on for about a day and want to get it stopped soon. I have thought about moving he cage to another room but having a house full of mounts we don't have a room that doesnt have one in it. I've thought of hanging some ribbon in the entryway to the kitchen but that has slowed down since Miss Ari took a liking to the Elk. I know bird parents allow them in the kitchen area but I'm not sure that is for us. Any suggestions will be very helpful!

Ha! Good luck with that!! Welcome to the wonderful world of ā€œyour bird will seek out and destroy the one thing you donā€™t want them to!ā€ They have a built-in radar that zeros in on your most important stuff! And it seems the more you make a fuss about it, the more determined they are to perch on it/eat it/poop on it/destroy it!

I have a tiny lorikeet who ALWAYS manages to find that one thing Iā€™d prefer she left alone. The only thing I can do is distract her with something she finds even more irresistible and hope she forgets about that lampshade/handbag/computer keyboard whatever else! You can try to use treats and toys made available in only the authorised bird-friendly places to tell your bird where she is welcome to sit and play and where is off-limits. But the siren call of those irresistible taboo things and places in your home is sometimes impossible for a bird to ignore!

Put something scary there...
I don't let my birds on the floor because of the dogs. I bang a spoon on metal when they do. But ibtry to not let them know it's me. It used to work great..... But now they mostly wait till they see me coming to get them.....I'm trying to not let it become a game.

But mostly they do good. Because I hang fishing line from a hook in the ceiling and attach a hoop rope for them in a few places. And I have a stand with several perches that I can move around. Those places have treat bars, toys, shredding stuff. And gives them their own furniture to hang out on near me. And their cage tops have lots if perches.

2 umbrella Cockatoos One male named Cooper and female named Baby 1 Little Corella male named Frankie and have 5 Cockatiels three named Male named Pepper, Fiesco for the female and female named Wylie.
All I have to say is that elk mount will soon be history. My female U2 Baby when she see something of interest, I could say NO and she leave it alone for a while and then one day if I not paying attention as distracted with someone, or something, she destroy what ever it was she was after. The more you say no it seem the more determined she is to go after it and will even make a cute sound when you catch her, or even argue back if you get upset at her. One time I when to talk to someone outside and she decided to tear up a a piece of the wood trim and came back up the stairs, she heard me and can hear her flyng back to cage and of course saw the chew up piece of wood and she knew she did wrong and she sat in cage giving me the innocent look. I knew it was her and not Cooper as she been after that piece of wood for a while.

Once they zero in on something, good luck. Your best bet is hide it, or put it somewhere she won't go to. She has plenty of toys and her own room, but still at times prefer to destroy my stuff?

As far as the kitchen, try putting up a strong tension rod and hanging curtains from it. In the wide entry way to my front living room, I have a shower curtain rod, with light weight curtains hanging from it. So far, when the curtain is closed my flyingbudgies respect the curtain. This might work for your bird and your kitchen.
